Tearful Altiyan Childs at rock bottom

Altiyan Childs becomes another case of a Reality TV star whose brush with fame has turned sour.

A tearful Altiyan Childs told Today Tonight he was broke and wanted to return to his former career as a forklift driver.

The X Factor winner told TT he was the victim of his ex-manager Steve Gold (real name Steve Yankuloff), who had not paid him for album royalties.

“I have no money that’s as simple as that. I think I’m probably about $400,000, $300,000 down,” he said.

“I don’t know what I’m doing it for, I would rather be a forklift driver and I’ve considered definitely, I saw my boss two days ago and I said, ‘Mate, you keep that seat warm for me’.”

Childs claims he never saw any equipment to create drugs at Gold’s home, which was raided by police on April 1st.

Gold told TT he has documentation to prove he managed Childs affairs properly, but wasn’t interviewed. 35 year old Childs currently has a 19 year old girlfriend and is a close friend of a woman and her 15 year old daughter.

None of it is the kind of publicity the show needs as it is scouring the country for its next batch of contestants.

Today Ronan Keating tells the Daily Telegraph Childs has probably played the wrong card at times.

“Altiyan’s problem is he has a very big heart and lets people in. We all know what this industry is like and people like to jump on the train when celebrity is involved. It can be a train wreck sometimes.

“Maybe I need to do some media training with my next contestants.”

Last year TV Tonight specifically asked the X Factor mentor / judges if their contestants would be getting media training.

“You’re not going to last if you have no media training. It’s a multi-talented facet being able to be an artist,” Guy Sebastian said.

“I’m tired of seeing a lot of these shows where these kids are 16 years of age on this show that says ‘We’re going to turn you into a superstar’ but once it’s over they’re just thrown to the wolves.”

  1. How can you all be so harsh on him ? . wow It’s so easy to vent all this hate on here .

I wish Altiyan Childs well and hope to hear that Album he wants to make real soon

People need to understand that these singers , actors etc are still human .

  2. Even before this hoo-haa, this guy looked like a flake to me. He’s 35 for goodness sake, not 16. He should grow a brain and maybe some talent.

  3. It just goes to show how much hot air these shows have. They give these kids or inexperienced performers a chance which is good but that is as far as it goes which is not good enough. Altiyan should have been given media training at least enough to help him avoid this crap which he has been cought up in. In saying that he should have known better. Hopefully the next contestants will get some advice on how to pick and how to not pick a manager, sometimes your just better off alone, its harder but when you get there it is so much more worth it. I hope that he manages to get help and support both emotionally and musically. For all of Altiyan’s weirdness he does have true tallent and it should not be wasted.

  4. Another pointless story by TT but i guess it’s getting attention to their new X Factor series. Meanwhile on Negus, there was a great story on Jon Blake and ADFA scandal.

  5. Total train wreck and interview
Kick em when theIr Down T/T
Better viewing for 6.30 with george with great story on John Blake.
Pity attention was not raised years ago.To be stuck in awfull dark roon for 25 yrs is heatbreaking.

  6. Shock – it’s a parasitic industry and the guy is talentless. End result : not at all surprising. Go back to being a forklift driver and grow a pair.

  7. That man is a gifted singer, back off everyone !he has just been used and abused , to trusting was his dilemma and now it’s all gone. I believe x factor should look out for these contestants and all the wolves that c easy money to b made from these inexperienced people.such a shame for altyian, a person misunderstood by all, good luck for the future

  8. I don’t get the line about him being close to a woman and her 15yo daughter.
Is it suppose to suggest he’s the 15yo girls father or that he shouldn’t be allowed near children ?

  9. Correct me if I am wrong, but i’m sure at one point in the interview Altiyan said “All I have is a few dollars and lice, yes that’s right Australia i’ve got lice because I got a little too close to some of my fans “. Try washing that greasy hair mate.

  10. Anyone could see this coming from the start. Firstly he was lucky to even get through the round after he kept forgetting the words then he disappeared in the cave.

It was obvious when he won he wouldnt be able to handle it all. I think Ronan was there to support him after a little bit but Aitlyn just couldnt deal with the fame and money. Its quite sad because he was a good singer.

  11. I always thought that Altiyan came across as a flake. There is just something deeply weird and unsettling about him, in my opinion. Just because you can carry a tune does not mean you are cut out for stardom or celebrity. I’m not surprised that it has all come crashing down like the house of cards it always was, and the scandal with his ex-manager is a very bad look. That it has come at a time when they are conducting rehearsals for the new series is particularly unfortunate. Interesting comment by Guy regarding very young contestants. Much to my horror, they have lowered the age this year to 14. WTH????????

  12. “35 year old Childs currently has a 19 year old girlfriend and is a close friend of a woman and her 15 year old daughter.”

Regardless of the man’s character when it comes to business, all of the above is completely irrelevant and not incriminating in the slightest. I detest the character-assassination-via-outrage that the media uses these days.

I am a close friend of a woman with a teenage daughter. I have dated women 16 years younger than me. Do I go to jail now?

So he was on TV. What does his personal life have to do with it?

  13. Even before I have seen other comments, i am going to predict some lacking in compassion for this chap. It all points to so many pot holes in the entertainment industry. He was a pretty raw vulnerable fellow during the series, so let loose away from the hand holding of segment producers, mentors, and production staff – he is a wobble fest! He is talented, not that that will save him. He needs some stability maybe some time out to find his balance. I wish him well.

  14. He needs to realise that in that industry the ones who are successful and have the money have worked Very Hard (and have some talent). The problem with the reality TV winners is they think everything will be handed to them on a silver platter, but really they’re just thrown in to the deep end and forced to swim with already that unfair advantage of being a reality TV “celebrity” which has a use by date for 9/10 of them.
