Wayne Carey on Marngrook Footy Show

Controversial former AFL footballer, Wayne Carey, will be a special guest on the Marngrook Footy Show later this month.

Last year as he sought to restore his name with the football audience, Carey appeared on ONE’s One Week at a Time. Now he will appear on the indigenous-produced football show that recently switched to ABC2.

An inductee of the AFL’s ‘Hall of Fame’, Carey has made headlines on and off the field during his stints captaining North Melbourne’s premiership team and his playing days at the Adelaide Crows.

Marngrook Footy Show host, Grant Hansen, says the All-Australian, leading goalkicker and best and fairest winner is very popular with Marngrook’s audience.

“There’s been an overwhelming positive response to having Wayne on the show,” Hansen says. “It’s great to talk to Wayne about things concerning football instead of the furore that surrounded his life off the football field. He’s made a huge contribution to the game of AFL.”

Hansen says Marngrook Footy Show is a fast-paced, family friendly show with an engaging mix of personalities that revel in discussing AFL games with serious analysis and friendly humour.

He says Marngrook is just a really old-fashioned football show.

“Marngrook follows the pattern of all the other footy shows – panellists, guests, reports from the field, team analysis and tips – except from one major point of difference.

“We discuss the game from an Indigenous perspective and we don’t pick on the disadvantaged, nor do we dwell on the negative.”

An avid Footscray supporter, Hansen never played at the highest level as his will to make it in the big league waned and he concentrated on a musical career.

It airs Wednesday, April 27th at 7.30pm on ABC2.
