He’s yet to bark on the FX Network in the US, but the American adaptation of SBS comedy Wilfred is sounding promising.
There are no reviews just yet but James Hibberd from Entertainment Weekly has called it “the funniest pilot I’ve seen since Modern Family.”
Guest stars set to appear include Chris Klein, Rashida Jones and Malcolm in the Middle‘s matriarch Jane Kaczmarek.
The FX series, with Jason Gann, Elijah Wood and Fiona Gubelmann, is due in the US in June.

Any Australian who has travelled to the USA will now the american audience wont appreciate this as a “Comedy”, as yanks sense of humor appeals to the very basic, slap stick “spelt out for you” jokes. Not dark, dry, sarcastic, morbid genius that wilfred is.
They’ll screw it up worse than they f****d up Kath & Kim!
Stupid Yankees.
Cesar Millan on rollerskates with Wilfred in tow would be a classic.
Why do Americans have to remake everything? What’s wrong with just watching the original series? The grittiness of the Oz series is what makes it funny!
Is Wilfred really going to say ‘c***’ in the American series? Let’s see.
looks promising, like it wont be too far off the aussie version.
dunno if they’ll go with the full frontal nudity, bongs and crack pipes like they did in the aussie version though… lol.
Australias finest export. It looks almost as good as the original, I’ll be watching.
Go Wilfred, Go Wilfred….
ozy ozy ozy woof woof woof
SBS One have the Australian rights. Maybe these Monday night repeats are meant to lead into the American version? Only a few months to go…
FX is the home of some of the best comedies.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Archer
Louie
The League
I had never even heard of this show until recently, honestly it was of no interest. What I saw clip wise of aussie one, we eh…
I will definitely check out the US one, as FX has such a strong record of comedy. I should check out the aussie one while im at it.
Aus version is replayed Monday nights on SBS ONE.
Gah, Modern Family! That show is the most bland concoction I’ve ever seen. I’ve no idea what people see in it.
Wilfred 2 looks great though. I’m sure it will decimate Modern Family quality-wise.
This does look like one of the few US remakes that stands up well against the original. I wonder if Gann (or Zwar) has had any involvement in the writing since the scripts appear to be original? (altho’ I’m sure we’ll see some of the better bits crop up anyway).
bonrad: easily explained, Aussie cattle dog ? 🙂
I don’t understand why, but these clips seem much funnier than the Australian version, which for some reason just never appealed to me.
It’s fun to bag the yanks – who normally do awful remakes – but they do sometimes do a better job, like the US version of The Office, which I liked much more than the original British effort.
A one trick show…not a patch on Modern Family
An FX Original Comedy?
It was ours first.
Still looks great though, so I might give it a go.
I occasionally caught episodes when it was on here… this one still looks pretty funny… Does anyone one know if one of the networks here have picked it up?? Preferably FTA!!
Who gets the rights in Oz?
Noooooo!!! He’s Ours! Having got that off my chest …. I hope it does well in America. I wonder if they are going to explain Wilfred’s Australian accent.
