2007 Big Brother rehearsal

Ever wondered what went on at a Big Brother rehearsal? Step back in time with these clips.

TV Tonight has frequently written articles that ‘deconstruct’ television: what goes on when the cameras go off.

Big Brother fans may be interested to watch some (very long) clips that have emerged on YouTube showing rehearsals for the Finale from 2007.

That was the year won by Aleisha, with Runner-Up being intruder Zach.

Remember these names: Zoran, Travis, Billy, Bodie, Demet and Joel? Ok maybe not.

The rehearsal includes everything from on-stage chats, to Ryan Fitzgerald, Bree Amer and Mike Goldman to walking from the House to the Dreamworld stage and the winner’s cheque.

Those expecting some behind-the-scenes scandal or tantrums to see the light of day will be disappointed. These are like many technical rehearsals: a lot of waiting around, wading through scripts, technicians doubling as talent etc.

In fact it reiterates that even right up until the last day Gretel Killeen and the team didn’t know who was going to win.

This was the final season of Big Brother hosted by Killeen.

  1. I used to watch BB, it was entertaining. I watched it more and was more interested than Masterchef. Which is something i watch here and there.

I always thought BB would be great for a digital channel. While the outlay isn’t cheap, there’s a hell of a low of programming that comes out of it. Also it might be more interesting if they don’t have to deal with all the complaints of being on a main channel.

    I say Bring it back!

Also the show licence fee would be much less now.

  2. look i will say this …and not many people here would experience it… but working on Live Tv is teh best…i miss it and i miss working on this show…say whay you like…but the experiences here were the best

  3. Off the bat I’m not a fan of Big Brother, but that said don’t mind if it is on though, if that’s what people want to watch I won’t begrudge them, plenty of other choices around these days.

Be tough for TEN to bring back Big Brother over winter with Masterchef running, couldn’t see them running both at the same time, plus Ten only have AFL on Sat Arvo and Night, it’s not a huge gap to fill (and Saturday is not when BB would fit in for the demographic).

TEN would be unlikely to switch Masterchef around and I can’t see them running it on Eleven at 7:30pm in competition up against Masterchef, guess after when Masterchef finishes they could run it (instaed of say Junior Masterchef).

I like the idea of what mha said though, I miss that late night trash TV stuff like the old days of Number 96, The Box, Chances and etc being on, NZ’s Outrageous Fortune filled the gap for a bit, love to see Aust do it again. Or perhaps if TEN end up the dollars tehn spread it out and have the resurrected version of Prisoner on with a one night a week chat show hosted by Shaun Micallef (make it a Graham Kennedy styled one though, that allows for skits).

  4. Having looked at the Dreamworld site on nearmap.com, its looks like the Big Brother house has already been half demolished, with the general area looking overgrown and rundown. The theatre is still there, but was there a long time before Big Brother. The old Blue Lagoon area next to it looks rather deserted and rundown too, not having been used for many years now.

  5. No No No, money would be better spent on some scripted late night tacky soap opera with underworld themes, bring back Chances instead if we were to have some revival trash on-air again.

  6. I remember seeing these videos way back then. It showed that they planned a much better final than the mess it turned out to be (due to the close voting which they extended I recall them bringing out out both Zach and Aleisha, as the result wasn’t so clear-cut and was taking too long for them the figure out the votes).

Anyway these videos showed that they actually made a return to announcing who the winner was in the house (as it should be, as the winner is the last housemate) and the runner up leaves after the winner is announced and then the winner has to spend a bit of time in the house alone. When they made the decision to bring out the final two and announce the winner on stage in some of the seasons I felt was such a downer, as the winner never really got to be the final person left in the house.

Anyway, if I had to choose between this and say MasterChef (which 10 now likes to flood over the place), I’d pick Big Brother. Loved it especially when Gretel hosted. Bit sad when they got rid of Uplate though in the last season.

  7. How about Darryl, Russell, John, and the rest of the HHiS crew go into the BB House but are never evicted? the show could be broadcast on Nine as nothing else is working and it’d make two groups of sad people a little bit happier (and hopefully quieter).

    I’m off to start a FB group…

  8. It may no longer be right for Channel 10 or as big… but i think it could make a good dint in sales and ratings for 11… finally show that these offshoot channels are worth the time and money!!

The BB stage is still there at Dreamworld Studio and I think the house is still there, well at last check it was.

I was never a huge fan of BB but I think this is just the sort of thing 11 is screaming out for and while I may not be fan something in me today wants to see it back on air! After all as someone said before it is the ultimate social experiment!

I don’t know if it could work again at Dreamworld, but I think a definite re-do and back to basics and look at it from a different and fresh angle!

BTW there is currently a Facebook page trying to get a million likes to bring it back to TV on 10, sort of like Hey Hey!! But while were at it if Australia’s Got Talent is doing so well, maybe time for 10 to look Australian Idol again, but same thing a refreshed version!

  9. @bundynelle Pretty sure the Big Brother house is still standing at Dreamworld but is used for storage. Say what you want about Gretel, but she dealt with the issues that arose on a live broadcast brilliantly.

  10. @Ryaneco I wouldn’t be surprised if Big Brother came back next year on Ten, if Seven don’t give them any of the AFL (which may be the case if they are trying to buy Before The Game off Ten as mentioned on the show), they’ll have dollars free and gaps to fill next winter (when BB used to be on), all they’d need is sponsors like KFC etc to come back on board.

  11. Catfan is absolutely correct. I remember seeing these clips very soon after the finale and yes they were courtesy of behindbigbrother website which is now behindthebox. But thanks for rediscovering them, they are still great to look back on. I also agree BB should return on one of the many channels the networks now have. Sadly I think the BB complex at Dreamworld has been long gone :0(

  12. Yes, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen these before. They may have been discovered by the behind big brother web site. I think there is still some life in Big Brother but they would need to get away from a group of homogeneous housemates and keep costs under control.
