Seven has finally confirmed the start date for acclaimed UK drama Downton Abbey.

As rumoured, the show will premiere at 8:30pm this Sunday May 29th, following Dancing with the Stars (won’t they be getting the riot act read to them to finish on time?).

Lauded by audiences and critics in the UK, this is a top-notch period drama with a lavish costumes, setting and enticing characters. It pulled huge numbers and won two Broadcasting Press Guild awards in 2011.

From the pen of award-winning writer Julian Fellowes comes ITV1’s brand new costume drama series, Downton Abbey, starring Maggie Smith as Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham, Hugh Bonneville as Robert, Earl of Grantham and Elizabeth McGovern as Robert’s wife, Cora, Countess of Grantham.Set in an Edwardian country house in 1912, Downton Abbey portrays the lives of the Crawley family and the servants who work for them.

This has much more to offer than being a stuffy, period piece. Get on board early.

  1. I missed a whole of the first shows but will be watching keenly from now on. I didn’t see it advertised, (but then I turn off ads) just found it accidentally. Pity it’s not on ABC.

  2. Having seen all first series, just visited Highclere Castle, the location of the series, and interviewed the cast, Julian Fellows, it’s creator and that of Mary Poppins, and filmed the gardens, Australia is in for wonderful television, even better than Brideshead. Sit back your Sunday nights will never be the same again.

  3. @Guy, there are 6 eps left of Castle (last night was ep18 of 24) and 8 eps of Bones (15 of 23 were aired). but one of the episodes is the pilot for “The Finder” which 7 will probably skip because they will not be airing that show.

but i think both shows will return to 8:30 slots with Body of Proof taking Sun 9:30.

  4. hmmm for $30 U.S i just bought the Blu Ray from Amazon including delivery.

Sorry Seven but i am not willing to sit by and have you stuff this around with endless promos for AGT. Maybe next time

  5. @Sam

Downton Abbey will be 90 minutes on Seven each week which is why Castle is now a repeat. So there will be no chopping of anything.

Sort of makes sense why Seven threw double episodes of Castle at us because now Bones and Castle are back in sync and when New eps return they will end at the same time.

  6. Given the way ch.7 has been advertising this show …forever….
And given what David has written about it….
I can see it being jam packed with ads….*sigh*

  7. I ordered it from hmv uk and it came today !!. The commercial with all the celebrities in it that have already seen it in advance reviewing it made me jealous so I wanted to join them and see it in advance. Thankyou Channel 7 for the very encouraging ad , might as well advertise HMV uk during the show !!
