TEN will soon premiere US legal comedy-drama The Defenders, starring James Belushi, Jerry O’Connell, in place of Lie to Me.

Loosely based on real-life Las Vegas lawyers Michael Cristalli and Marc Saggese, it follows a pair of defense attorneys who go all out to help their clients while keeping their personal lives in order. It also stars Jurnee Smollett, Tanya Fischer and Teddy Sears.

The CBS series aired in the US from September – March but was cancelled earlier this month.

With an eclectic client list and a desire to hit their own jackpot, Nick Morelli and Pete Kaczmarek are your local go-to guys if you need a defense attorney in Las Vegas!

It starts 9:30pm Wednesday June 1st on TEN.

  1. @ Jack – it’s less “crazy”, and more “too invested in TV shows”. With the addition of digital sister channels, aswell as Foxtel/Austar channels, there is no reason to get addicted to a show that has already been cancelled when I could be watching a show that is renewed and not going anywhere.
@ Alphagirl – you and I appear to be a lot alike =p.

  2. @Jack … You are probably right. I may be crazy but that’s just the way it is. I get a little bit over invested in TV shows. I still mourn the end of Buffy. I know. I need to get a life.

  3. You guys are beyond crazy. You find out a show is cancelled at what, 18 episodes, so you cancel it in your own head at three instead? You want to see more of it but can’t, so you watch far less?

  4. @ Alfagirl – I had recorded the first episodes of Detroit 1-8-7 and as soon as I found out it was axed I deleted them without watching them. And in the case of The Gates, I was hooked by the time I found out it was axed after one season so was shattered when the last episode was on FOX8.

  5. @Josh … I’m with you. I watched the first few episodes of Detroit 187 even though the general opinion was that it would not be renewed. I liked it. It was not renewed. I stopped watching immediately to avoid emotional involvement. I was totally annoyed at the way The Gates finished off. So many questions left unanswered. However, that is a very different scenario because I did not start watching it knowing that it would not continue.

  6. THis looks good. I was wondering when they would roll this out, better late then never i guess. It certainly does sound similar to boston legal and as i have said before was a great show should not have been cancelled, but this i will take a look at and if it grabs me earley i will watch the rest.

  7. @ Craig – Thats true, it would be good for Jim fans to see him in a role outside of According To Jim
@ JobbyWobby – Actually I watch a lot of movies, but they do not end in cliffhangers never to be concluded. I watch a large amount of television shows, but since Las Vegas and The Gates I refuse to watch shows that have been axed with the finale having a large amount of unanswered plots. If TV networks would allow for a couple of episodes to conclude axed shows than I would watch every TV series no matter its status, but until TV networks come to that decision than I’m not watching. Other shows include Eli Stone, No Ordinary Family, Heroes, etc.

  8. Josh: I guess you do not watch any movies then unless there is going to be a sequel?
Every show will end, so why watch anything at all?

  9. @Josh – fan of either James Belushi or Jerry O’Connell should watch it, just because it was cancelled doesn’t mean it’s not worth a look, just don’t get attached to the show.

  10. Why watch a show thats already been cancelled? I would rather use my time watching shows that have been renewed than get into a show just to have it end.

  11. I was wondering when Ten would finally get around to airing this. Didn’t David Mott say they would be rolling it out at the ‘top of the year’?

Anyway I watched the pilot episode, it was okay, nothing spectacular. Good if you’re looking for a lighter show with humour, but not as whimsical as say…Boston Legal/Harry’s Law. And Ten have 20 episodes of this show to air so you can expect some stability here…unless it gets bumped before all the episodes play out
