Australian Story 15th Anniversary

Australian Story showcases some of its finest subjects including Bob Irwin, Belinda Emmett, Kerry Packer and Nick Ross,

Tonight and next week Australian Story celebrates 15 years on the ABC.

Presented by Caroline Jones, the show will look back on some of its standout episodes featuring the quiet achievers, the famous and the infamous. Across the two episodes it will bring viewers up to date with some of the people in that have featured in the series.

The Top 15 includes Australia’s richest person, Gina Rinehart; quadriplegic pilot and farmer Sam Bailey; wildlife campaigner Bob Irwin; John Button, wrongfully convicted of murder and investigative journalist Estelle Blackburn who uncovered the truth; the unforgettable, intimate journey of Belinda Emmett; Kerry Packer and Nick Ross, who gave a kidney to his friend and employer; indigenous leader Chris Sarra through to Beth Heinrich and the Anglican church sex scandals.

We’ll also share how Australian Story has inspired some astonishing personal feats and sparked extraordinary community action amongst our viewers.

The program first aired on May 29, 1996 and since then has won public acclaim and many top national and international industry awards.

It airs 8pm Monday May 9 and 16 on ABC1.
