CBS confirms Two and a Half Men reboot still possible

CBS and Warner Bros. are indeed "exploring different ideas" on a reboot of Two and a Half Men without Charlie Sheen.

CBS CEO Leslie Moonves has confirmed Warner Bros. is “exploring different ideas” on a reboot of Two and a Half Men without Charlie Sheen.

“We don’t know what the resolution is right now. There are obviously a lot of moving pieces,” he said, adding “we’re sort of waiting on them.”

In something of an each way bet he confirmed “it is an important show to us,” but noted that the network’s strong schedule that doesn’t make it dependent on a single series.

“We will see what happens.”

Moonves confirmation follows previous talk that Chuck Lorre is considering the show with Jon Cryer and a potential new character.

Sheen is reportedly due in Australia on May 7th.

  1. Nine might be considering doing a 7pm News Show hosted by Karl Stefanovic and Leila McKinnon so the odds at least here in Australia of a 2.5 men minus Charlie Sheen most likely won’t happen but if it does they should not this time around try to compete against the likes of Home and Away or 7pm Project but instead dedicate one night a week for it like what the Channel used to do back in the nineties with My Two Wives and All Together Now.Those along with the Bob Morrison Show were the last decent family friendly sitcoms they used to do before switching to the somewhat cheaper American Import Option.

  2. I was thinking of, rebooting the show, with Jake taking Charlie’s slot, and with a new 1/2 man, with some crazy story (e.g. a second son, for Alan or even as Allie suggested, a son of Charlie’s from one of those one night stands, he had in the past, (possibly before the start of the series) to reset the 1/2 man back to a ten year old (and having him/her grow up like Jake did), so, 2 and a Half Men, don’t become Three Men eventually).

That solution could extend the life of the series by another 7/8 seasons, and bring in new stories, that couldn’t be possible with Charlie.

  3. The show has had it. I very much doubt that it will last long because without Charlie sheen the show will tank, and that is no disrespect to the other actors/actreses but the fact of the matter is that it was charlie sheen who raked in the big money for CBS not the others, why else were CBS prepared to pay him a lot of money if he was not making more for them in return.

  4. i rekon another actor would be just as good as charlie. I mean it is the writers who make him so funny(ap) But they do need to get the right person

  5. Just as long as they don’t over expose the show in Australia. The constant use of these 2.5 men repeats right after A Current Affair has costed them dearly up against 7 and 10’s fresh new weeknight offerings. These days Home and Away is Number 1 followed by 7pm Project while Nine can’t pull in anywhere near as many people as either.
They could do a 10 and make their own 7pm type news show to win back the viewers fed up to death of american repeats.

  6. How many times has a reboot been successful when a main character leaves (especially with a relatively small cast)???

Scrubs (or Scrubs Uni, Scrubs 2.0 or whatever it was called) without JD didn’t last very long did it?

  7. I am sure the show will be relaunched with Cryer and a new character to take Charlie’s place. Cryer outacted Charlie Sheen in every scene they shot, so it’s a no-brainer, really. The writers can surely think of many ways to replace Charlie. I like the long-lost son of Charlie scenario, where an illegitimate son of Charlie tracks the family down and comes to live with them. He could be a carbon copy of Charlie in terms of his behaviour, like father like son, as they say. Very easy for the writers to pull that off, as it would be more of the same. Charlie’s absence can easily be explained away, either have his character die in an accident or say that he has run to parts unknown with one of his women.

  8. I believe CBS won the ratings year in the US so it’s true, they do have a very strong schedule even if you took away 2.5 men.

I don’t believe they still don’t know how to resolve the matter. They fired Charlie weeks ago. They would’ve of sat down and worked out a plan before they even terminated his contract.
