Steven Spielberg newest sci-fi drama Falling Skies is headed for FOX8.
The 10-part series, starring Noah Wyle, will launch in Australia shortly after its American debut in June.
The series opens in the aftermath of a hostile alien takeover. The Earth is in ruins and survivors are few. In the months following the attack, those who managed to evade capture or death have banded together in the difficult task of fighting for the future of humanity against staggering odds.
“Falling Skies is absolutely massive for FOX8. We are very proud and excited to have secured exclusive telecast rights as well as the online extras to this series,” said Duane Hatherly, Group Channel Manager FOX8, Arena and BIO.
“Let’s face it – any series that Steven Spielberg is so deeply involved in is a good get.”
The series is executive-produced by Steven Spielberg, along with DreamWorks Television heads Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, Graham Yost (Justified, The Pacific) and screenwriter Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan).

Hey, when is this coming back, it’s been almost 4 Months???
@Secret Squïrrel – do we know why the aliens are killing us off? Maybe they go to planets and kill the local population for sport. ITA it would be far easier to release a bio-weapon into the atmosphere and kill us all, they must be a reason to their tactics.
I was hoping this would be on SciFi or better still Showcase with no ads but I’ll take Fox8 and thank the Gods Nine or the other FTA channels didn’t get their hands on this.
Don’t have Pay TV… dang… I guess we’ll see it on FTA in a years time…
So it’s War of the Worlds meets Independence Day crossed with V. Usually like sci-fi but will give this a miss.
I watched this last time when it was called Taken.
This sounds big, at least being on Fox8 it’s unlikely to be cut after a few weeks.
Very pleased that it’s going to be on pay tv, so we will see all 10 parts, most probably at the same time each week!
Wish it wasn’t Fox8 though, they have too many ads.

Of course we wouldn’t stand a chance against an ET thousands of years more advanced. Anyway I’m into UFOlogy and so of course I’m a huge Spielberg fan so I’ll check this out if I can.
Looks quite good but they make the same old errors with the military technology. Apparently the aliens can travel across the vast emptiness of space but still need to close within WWII ranges to deploy munitions. Plus, we have satellites now that can tell which numbers you pressed on your mobile phone but the aliens can’t see where a bunch of humans are hiding?
Still, guess there wouldn’t be a whole drama series if they just picked us off from 1,000’s of km away.
Sounds good. Would have been more suitable on Sci Fi but with it being on FOX8 it will be in HD.
Great news! I’ve been hearing about Falling Skies for months and, from the promos and background information that I’ve read, it sounds like an exciting, imaginative and gripping series.
I hope Fox8 airs the show as close to the American release date as possible, otherwise people will find “other means” of watching it.
