Gone: Air Ways

Been wondering what happened to Air Ways? Here's some clarity...

This programming story is a little late, but at least it gets to the bottom of things.

As many readers know, Seven’s Air Ways series didn’t air last week, replaced by How I Met Your Mother.

It had premiered only the week before to just 676,000 viewers, while HIMYM was 714,000.

The biggest problem for the show is the appeal of MasterChef tempting viewers in a similar genre.

TV Tonight understands it is expected to return in the second half of the year, paired with Border Security.

It marks one of the few switcheroos Seven has had to make to its primetime schedule this year.

  1. The only thing tiger needed out of the show is exposure and it got it. A constant reminder that they existed. The only reason anyone flies tiger is the price. They were filming in Melbourne last week. I was there very early and they were just setting up but the signs warning you about filming were up already.

  2. @ Franz Chong, Seven aired a New episode of HIMYM at 7:30pm– “Legendaddy” which aired in the US on March 21st, 2011.

Then at 8:00pm if aired the repeat episode of HIMYM “Do I Know You?”

So either you saw an episode of How I Met Your Mother on a Virgin flight 4 months before it aired in the USA or you turned on closer to 8pm which means you would’ve missed new Airways anyway.

  3. I was so looking forward to this last week but tuned in on around 7:30pm only to find an old How I met your mother episode that I have seen on a Virgin flight six months ago now screening in the place of Airways really disappointed.

  4. This just posted on a USA website, ABC America has cancelled the following shows

V: The latest reincarnation of the classic sci-fi series has been left floating. Disappointing ratings and a lukewarm critical reception have plagued V for the better part of a year.

Brothers & Sisters: A five-year veteran ABC drama has had its final curtain call. The prime-time soap opera had over 100 episodes and finished up its final one just last week.

No Ordinary Family: Yet another superhero show bites the dust. After a promising start, ratings and interest sagged as the show fell into a rut circling both family drama and super-powered cliches.

  5. I am amazed that Tiger allowed them to film. All the show depicts is endless disputes between customers and airline staff, with the customers being grumpy, and the staff being arbitrary and seeming to be insensitive. Maybe I’ve missed some positive stories for Tiger, but I can’t help thinking the overriding impresssion the show gives is that Tiger is surrounded by endless disputes and angry customers.
Surely it cant be good PR for the Airline?

  6. I was going to say wait until DWTS ended and bring it back sunday nights and pair it up with either Border Security or the Force. Thats where it dominated.

  7. I found the show quite educational. When i recently flew with Jetstar i made sure i was at the airport an hour and a half early as i didn’t want to pay another couple of grand in case i missed the flight.

  8. I like Corrine Grant a lot. However, I couldn’t stay half an hour of Jo and Joe Public being bloody stupid / idiots / failing to read their ticket. Once (or more correctly, less than once) was enough.

  9. It’s a shame Airways didn’t go so well this time, but as David said most observational shows couldn’t compete with MC. I think it’s because if you miss an episode of a reality show you could miss an elimination or crutial challenge, but episodes of observationals are independent so you can come in and out as much as you like and not be lost.
