Mary Tyler Moore to undergo brain surgery

Veteran US actress Mary Tyler Moore, 74, has entered a hospital to remove a benign tumor on the lining of her brain.

A spokeswoman said Moore’s doctors recommended the elective procedure after monitoring the tumor “for years” but would not specify if the surgery had already taken place, or how Moore was doing.

The procedure was to remove a meningioma, a slow-growing tumor in the membranes that cover the brain. Meningiomas usually occur in older adults and are mostly benign.

Moore, who became famous in the 1960s comedy The Dick Van Dyke Show and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, most recently reunited with former castmate Betty White in the second season of Hot in Cleveland.
