Underbelly not quite so uncut after all

An episode of Underbelly, set to screen in Victoria, may have to undergo some editing due to yet another pending legal case.

Nine is likely to head back to the editing suites on its 2008 series of Underbelly despite promoting the belated screening as Underbelly Uncut.

Despite the lifting of bans on the controversial series, lawyers for a man who cannot be identified yesterday told the Victorian Supreme Court that episode 13 had the potential to prejudice a jury.

Justin Quill, representing Nine, yesterday told the court the network was aware of the trial due later this year.

“They have no intention of doing the wrong thing,” he said. “There is more than a suppression order, there is a trial pending.”

Quill said plans were under way for three names to be taken out of the show when it was screened in Victoria, and for further editing.

Parties have agreed to negotiations about the episode, with no formal application yet made for its suppression.

Nine began rescreening the series on Tuesday night in Victoria.

Earlier this year Nine was forced to rename characters in the Underbelly telemovie, Tell Them Lucifer Was Here.

  1. Just out of curiosity given it is only airing in Melbourne, would Nine get the same amount of drama points for this compared to a show that airs nationally?

  2. Again? Got to be joking! I thought finally we (those in Victoria) were going to be able to see what the rest of Australia has seen ages ago intact, and it is still going to be edited.

Whatever it is though, I really hope it is minor, and doesn’t matter to the show at all, as otherwise I’ll have to wait until whenever they can show the ‘110% definitely full, uncut and uncensored version.. we promise’ version.
