Adam quits MasterChef

MasterChef contestant Adam Bowen last night fell on his sword and quit the show telling the judges he didn't have a burning desire to win the title.

It was almost the show’s very own ‘Cosima’ moment….

MasterChef contestant Adam Bowen last night fell on his sword and quit the show telling the judges he didn’t have a burning desire to win the title.

As other contestants spoke of their passion for the game, Bowen says feelings of guilt pushed him to resigning from the contest.

“As time went on I realised cooking professionally wasn’t for me,” he said.

“Being in MasterChef is the toughest thing I’ve ever done – it’s extremely self-confronting. But I didn’t come onto the show to change my life; I came to answer a question of whether I should have followed a career in food when I was 17 years old.

“I have a successful business and a lucky life, who am I to turn around and take the spot of someone who I know would get more benefit out of MasterChef than me?”

In quitting the show, he effectively saved Danielle Dixon from elimination.

“When Danielle was talking about how much she wanted to win the show, I realised I didn’t need my life to be changed.”

  1. Good on him for going when he realised it wasnt what he enjoyed.

I laughed when Garry said you have cooked some amazing dishes. We hardly ever see what Adam cooks because you only show 3/4s of the dishes.

  2. He’s flown under my radar until now but I applaud his honesty and integrity. Usually the bs about “how much do you want to be here?” really irritates me, so it’s quite refreshing that Adam was honest and didn’t make up some mushy spiel like everyone else.

And to address the question of him stealing someone else’s opporunity to be on MC; anyone who would’ve gone the distance would have gotten in regardless of whether or nor Adam was there.

  3. It really annoys me when people do. This many people would have loved the chance to be on MC and he got that chance if he wanted to see if a career in cooking was for him then he should have tried to get a job in a kitchen rather than going on MC

  4. @Moses – maybe it took him a while to realise he didn’t have the passion for being a chef that he thought he did. Sometimes it takes a while 🙂

  5. What!? he couldn’t have worked this out a month ago? This season of Masterchef is finished as far as I’m concerned. I can’t watch it especially with Matt and the allegations surrounding him: everytime he says something or the show focuses on him I think about those allegations (re: mobile phone etc) and it’s aggravating!!

  6. Good for him for having enough self-awareness to realise he really shouldn’t have been there. I have often wondered why someone with a successful dive business, what I consider a laid-back dream job, would want to swap that for the uncertainty, stress and rigours of a commercial kitchen. Didn’t someone do something similar to this in series one? I seem to recall that young girl from WA who wanted to be a pastry chef fell on her sword fairly early in the series and nominated herself for elimination.
