Daytime Emmys 2011: winners

The Bold and the Beautiful, Ellen, General Hospital, Dr. Oz and Oprah are all honoured at the Daytime Emmys in the US.

US soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful has won the top Daytime Emmy award at the weekend, clinching the prize for best drama series. It was the third consecutive win for the series.

“It’s over the top. We’re so grateful,” said the show’s executive producer Bradley Bell as he accepted the award.

Best actor went to As the World Turns star Michael Park, while Laura Wright from General Hospital won best actress.

The Ellen DeGeneres Show won the Entertainment Talk Show gong.

Gladys Knight sang a tribute to Oprah Winfrey,  but Winfrey only appeared on tape with her staff holding the Crystal Pillar award she was given for changing the face of daytime television.

Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune hosts, Alex Trebek and Pat Sajak, received lifetime achievement awards.

PBS won the most awards over the weekend. Unfortunately, all 14 of its wins – eight for Sesame Street alone – happened during the non-televised portion of the two-day event.

  1. Appears odd B&B would win for outstanding series then the awards for most outstanding lead actor and actress go to different shows and the award for writing goes to its sister show, Y&R.

  2. B&B has been awesome of late. Thoroughly deserving of the win. Look forward to each new episode more than ever before, and that’s saying something given I’ve watched the show since the very beginning. Hope they’re planning something big for the 25th anniversary next year.
