Heather Foord steps down from Nine News Brisbane

Nine News presenter Heather Foord will exit her weekend role in Brisbane to become a relief presenter.

In last night’s Nine News Brisbane bulletin, Heather Foord announced her retirement from her role as the weekend presenter  to a part-time role with the Network.

“I’ve been doing this job for my entire working life,” said Foord. “For more than 23 years I have been driving up the mountain to a job that I have loved and friends that I cherish, but it is time for me to spread my wings. It’s time for me to look beyond Mt Coot-tha and focus on the things that matter most in my life.

“I am very grateful to the Nine Network for accepting this decision, Nine has always understood and accommodated my need to find a happy work-life-balance. I feel very fortunate the Network wants me to stay on and this new part-time role will give me an ongoing connection with this great team.”

Managing Director, Kylie Blucher said: “When Heather spoke to us about stepping away from her current contract our initial reaction was to find a way to convince her to stay! Heather has been an integral member of our on-air line up for over 23 years so we were determined to find a way that she could remain within the Nine family and enable her to do some other things with her life.

“It’s a courageous decision by Heather to step away from the security of her role and I wish her nothing but the best as she discovers the many opportunities outside of television that will open up for her.”

Foord will continue on with Nine News as a relief presenter over holiday periods, her successor will be announced in the coming weeks.

  1. I will truly miss the wonderful traits of Heather as a newsreader. The warmth, honesty, integrity , empathy and honesty that she radiates is something unique to her gorgeous personality.I always found her very natural and caring unlike some of the more soul less , cold , model figures who remain as’ ice maidens’ when they present the news.
It’s an art to not just read the news, but to connect with the camera and viewers in an honest warm way with ease and humour and show some genuine heart at some of the terrible things they have to report, these are Heathers winning traits. I will miss her very much indeed.

  2. Wasn’t she a national or Sydney newsreader before? She used to be on all the time and it seems like I haven’t seen her for a few years and boy she seems to have aged.

  3. Eva or Syliva? Sylvia and Eva? I’m sure the cases for and against are being made for both.

Good on Heather, she’s a top shelf newslady for 9. Perhaps she can cook a few more muffins and open a cafe out Dayboro way?

Your article mentions Heather will be a relief presenter during holiday periods, hope Bruce Paige isn’t bumped, he was refreshed and on his game over summer.

  4. I always found her cringe-worthy. Good at what she does, but she never seemed natural. While I do watch Nine News, I always enjoy Seven better on the weekends.
Good luck (and no offense) to Heather.

  5. Hasn’t she retired a number of times before, though? She always seems to come back… 😛

I don’t watch Nine News often, but she was always one of the few readers that stood out for me. Good luck to her, I say. 🙂

(And yes; it does look like Christmas decorations!)

  6. Unfortunately: unlike Heather’s first retirement, in 2008, there’s no Extra to fall back on this time.

On call newsreading, is what Jillian Whiting does at 7, but at least she does stuff for the weekend advertorials from time to time, to keep her busy.

But Seven needs a gamble, if their 5:30 ratings are to improve (which has seen their weekday news ratings become unstable, even losing the entire month of May to Nine)…
