Jane Lynch confirmed to host Emmys

It's official. Jane Lynch will become only the third woman to host the Emmys alone, later this year.

Following on from strong rumours, Jane Lynch will host the Emmy Awards.

She will become the third woman to host the Emmys alone, following in the footsteps of Angela Lansbury in 1993 and Ellen DeGeneres in 2005.

Emmys executive producer Mark Burnett, said: “Jane was my first – and only – choice as the host for this year’s Primetime Emmys, and I am glad she said ‘yes,’ ” said first-time.

“She has incredible comedic timing, and is a charismatic, talented actress whose energy leaps off the screen and stage. I am thrilled and excited to have her as our host.”

Lynch, who won the best supporting actress Emmy last year for her Glee, recently hosted NBC’s late-night sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live.

Since Glee it’s been a swift rise amongst the ranks for the actress who had appeared in a number of other film and TV projects. Two years ago when TV Tonight interviewed her during Emmys week she was hopeful that Glee might land a nomination the following year. Now she is the host of the ceremony.

Emmy nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 14.

  1. I wonder if this makes her chances slimmer of back to back Emmy’s in the comedy category. It would be great so see Julie Bowen or Sofia Vergara from Modern Family win in her category, but i think she will be a Doris Roberts, Helen Hunt styled winner and take theprize for three or more successive years – she has that undeniable winning quality to her work, Even her guest spots as Sheen’s therapist in Two and a half men are always superb. She has been building that following for years. I am thrilled she is hosting.
