More Big Brother rumours

TEN makes noises that it might like to revive Big Brother, but wonders whether audiences have moved on.

In April this site asked whether it was time to relaunch Big Brother on a digital channel such as ELEVEN.

Now there are media reports saying it is under consideration by TEN. But it’s by no means a certainty just yet.

“We’ve looked at Big Brother. I think audiences have moved on to some degree,” David Mott has told News Limited.
“It’s a summer show for CBS, it doesn’t play in the heart of the ratings season but it’s done a pretty good job for them.

“All broadcasters have looked at it. It’s extremely expensive because the house no longer exists.

“(But) it’s not whether we’re financially able to do it, it’s whether tonally it’s right for audiences now.

“It only finished up three years ago and in some respects audiences have moved on.”

  1. Bring it baaaack.
Today’s only reality tv is building and renovation shows, the rest of the time it’s US crime shows!
Other major countries haven’t stopped it and are killing it!
We need to make Aussie tv fun again!

  2. Would love to see Big Brother back on the tv. They should give it another go and if it doesnt work, atleast they tried. You never know, it could be a ratings winner. Look at the Block.. I would love to apply to go on it…

  3. Well I was on Big Brother 3 and as much as it was fun and exciting at the time I really think it shows a faulse sense of reality to the everyday viewer, especially children. After walking out I realized it was portrayed to young viewers that its ok to get bullied which is why I left. At the time I said it was for other reasons but I really think that my mind was so driven by the phycologist to say the reasons I left. Anyhow alot of time has past and if the show does for some reason come back I really do hope that any contestant that goes through has the strength to not get bullied, it is a real blow to the system. Bxox.

  4. I used to watch bb all the time. It was the only trashy reality series I well and truly loved. As sad as that may sound. Ah, how I wish they would bring it back. I just wish they featured housemates that weren’t all stereotypical Australian “bogans” but actually came from various demographics. Miss it.

  5. It was lighthearted TV that you could relax and watch. There are two types of people out there. People who Didn’t watch it and said they Hated it, then the people who Did watch it and were fanatics. The best series were when they had the diverse characters not the episodes when they tried to get the people to match up. If they bought it back with totally different people with different backgrounds it would go really well. There are enough TV channels out there to cater for everyone now so I think it would find it’s place. You just have to look at all the american reality shows that are popular here now to know this. When they brought in Jackie O and Kyle that is what killed it. Bring it back. You know you want to!

  6. This afternoon I was listening to talkback radio (Brisbane’s 4BC) and they have a “Rumour File” segment. One of the rumours today was that “Big Brother” will be returning to Australian TV but on one of the CH9 digital stations. Not sure how true the rumour is but it was funny hearing it on a talkback station aimed at the over40s LOL

  7. It deserves to come back. All we get these days almost every night is a crime show except on Saturday Nights on Ten.

If you take away Echo Point and Taken Out and now the 7pm Project for a minute Ten relied way too much on US Sitcoms now that are long out of production prior to Big Brother

  8. I say bring it for sure. It would have to be completely revamped meaning completely new location. I think put Mike Goldman in the hosting I think with his talent and what he bought to the show in prevous seasons would definately be a great asset to the Show.

I ave missed BB sooo much. I think its time to bring it back especially when you look the ratings that certain networks were getting. So BB is not every bodies cup of tea, but it is dealing with current issues though, I personally think people these days can relate too.

  9. I watched every season on channel 10. I’m now in my late 20s and I will watch it once again if it’s on. I do kind of miss it. It was entertaining. It’s always lame the people rubbishing it. It’d rather watch BB than a shitty soap opera, or border security. Now they are lowest common denominator programs.

They definitely should put it on Eleven.

I think the issue with it is, the digital channels have allowed for more programming, but at the end of the day having twice as much content doesn’t mean there’s twice as many viewers. So say they put it on at 7pm, it would take viewers away from the main channel.

  10. Do any of the fans on here know what happened to behindbigbrother.com ?
(Changed to behindthebox.com.au when BB finished)

The site (sadly) doesn’t exist anymore….

It was the Best source for BB related stuff….

    Ah, the old days.

  11. @pete Agreed about Friday Night Games. I’m all up for a light hearted show, and I don’t really think making it ‘upmarket’ will do it any favours; but I do believe UpLate would do more than pull its weight for people opting for a lighthearted alternative (like me).
A prime time Friday edition of the show that runs for 2 hours is just too much and while the ratings will go down because of the share of the audience out on the town at that time, no one will take this into consideration, so it will just give the show a worse name. Besides, as I recall, and I know viewing habits are different now, but I recall Friday Night Live getting well near 1 million viewers, even when it was axed. If TEN got that today, they’d be happy as larry. Although, bear in mind that wouldn’t happen.
Also, to whoever mentioned it, I think they’d have more luck airing the US version in July. It’s a fresh take on the format, it airs around our peak viewing period and it’s still going strong. Mott also seemed interested in it when talking to News Limited.

  12. You only have to look at the current shows like Jersey Show to know people really want people like this in house… to create the controversy and talking point… I mean I find JS the biggest car crash television that it actually becomes great!!
