New deal for Melissa Doyle

Melissa Doyle has reportedly signed a new contract with Seven, rumoured to be worth $700,000 a year.

Melissa Doyle has reportedly signed a new contract with Seven, rumoured to be worth $700,000 a year.

Her manager James Erskine tells News Limited hadn’t shopped her around to other networks, despite some expression of interest from one.

“We have been sitting down negotiating with Seven for some time and we have been going back and forth looking at the various opportunities available for Mel post-Sunrise.”

If the figure of $700,000 is accurate (and they rarely are in media) it would put her below the rumoured $1m a year for David Koch, but ahead of Lisa Wilkinson’s rumoured $600,000 a year.

While the fee may keep many guessing, the “post-Sunrise” admission is far more intriguing. Rarely are exits hinted, but if management is openly flagging change, how many years will the Sunrise team stay intact?

Doyle’s last contract with Seven was signed in December 2008.

  1. There was actually an article in one of the Sydney papers talking about this and on top of this, the article it said how 10 were also looking at getting into the brekky TV market

  2. A disgrace. She is clearly not bright, nor well educated. She is always lost when non scripted conversation takes place. She is incapable of finishing a sentence when she is trying to make some inane remark, she loses her way, and always throws her arms up and says, ” sorry, oh I dont know”.
    She is a pathetic joke.

  3. Melissa Doyle is (i think) the last of the original members of sunrise. I dont know if she will have a post sunrise tv carreer. I think she could move into radio that would be my guess. Remember Melissa is not a journo (i dont think) so she cant present or report on news. Come to think of it how did she get the gig on Sunrise in the first place. What are her credentials. We all know what David can go back to when he finishes simple Finance, but what about Melissa.

  4. “Why would you pay Kochie $1 million and pay Mel $700k”

Because they know they can replace Mel with Nat or Kylie and no one will notice or care. All 3 are cut from the same mould.

Kochie is the star of the show.

  5. If her contract included Sunrise and the other primetime shows she hosted such as Where Are they now and The Zoo, i could understand that amount of money. Though i haven’t seen those other shows for quite some time so it appears Sunrise is all she’s doing at the moment. I guess it just stresses the importance of having a good manager.

To think of those newbie journalist doing live crosses at the 6pm bulletin in the pouring rain would be on less than 50k a year

  6. I dont get it either. Why should Kochie earn another 300 grand. Because he reads out the financial reports. They do the same job and I reckon the show would still do well if Kochie left but if Mel left I reckon it would drop.

Its the same with Kylie. If reports are fact then she should earn more than half than what Larry does.

Hopefully Mel hangs around for a few more years.

  7. Why would you pay Kochie $1 million and pay Mel $700k when they do the exact same thing. Kochie isn’t even funny or interesting, i’d prefer Mel to host the whole show on her own without Kochie- in my view she is the bigger star. Kochie is an overly opinionated personality which I don’t think most Australians care for.

  8. This doesn’t make sense for a show that gets only 300k viewers a day! Give the money to proper actors in the industry and not pretend ‘journalists’.

  9. I love Mel, she has a warm bubbly & slightly naughty on screen persona, definitely in the Yummy Mummy class. There is no reason why she should be paid any less than the Koch or even Lazza, however all of them are paid way too mich considering the miniscule ratings that their shows achieve and the depth of journalism required. The same goes for Kylie ( another part of my morning drool over the TV routine), there is no way she should get a cent less than Lazzy, but he is massively over paid. There are plenty of cheapo wanabees that could replace all of them.
