Nine announces new iPad app Nine Extra

Nine has trialled a new “live game” companion for the iPad, that sports fans will want to check out.

The Nine Network has introduced a newly designed “live game” companion for the iPad, known as Nine Extra.

The application allows fans to watch in-game highlights and on-demand video replays of every sports moment shortly after live broadcast on Nine.

Trialled for the first time in this week’s State of Origin game, it features multi-camera-angle video on demand available just moments after it happens, live scores and match statistics, State of Origin match historical data, team and player profiles, live feed of Nine’s State of Origin Twitter feed, live news feeds from Nine’s commentary team and expert panel, and profiles of the Wide World of Sports rugby league broadcast team. It will also have archival vision from 2011 Harvey Norman State of Origin games one and two.

“Nine continues to give viewers the very best in sports broadcasting and Nine Extra is a testament to our commitment to the ongoing development of sports television presentation in Australia,” Executive Producer, Rugby League, Matthew Callander, said.

The new application will be made available as a free download from iTunes prior to Origin game three on Wednesday, July 6th.

Nine also plans to expand the application to other programs.

  1. The app will be a good companion, but bring the game back in HD or give the rights to Ten’s One HD!

Can’t believe last year it was all hyped up about the game being HD and 3D and this year we don’t even get HD….

Dare channel 9 put State Of Origin on GEM, their “female” channel? Is say YES, it’s HD!

  2. Good on Nine. They have been innovating the iPhone/iPad craze with them releasing the news app before any other aussie network.
So what if games arent in HD? Doesnt affect the game at all. Only the picture.
