Nine: mid-year highlights

Nine's second half of the year will feature Underbelly: Razor, Sherlock, Camelot, Hamish & Andy's Gap Year and The Voice.

Nine recently released its mid-year highlights to media which gives an indication of what is still coming up this year.

After Nine’s disappointing first half for 2011 can it turn its fortunes around with new Australian and international content? There are some tempting shows including Underbelly: Razor (pictured), Sherlock, Camelot and the profile debuts of Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year and The Voice.

Please note the list includes some recent mid-year titles such as Come Fly With Me on Nine and Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Fringe on GO! Some shows are also not new episodes (ie. Friends, The Inbetweeners).

The list ambitiously includes the recently-commissioned drama Kerry Packer’s World Series Cricket, but also includes previously promised titles such as Panic at Rock Island.

Some shows are also noted as fast-tracked including new Top Gear (it returns in the UK later this month), Come Fly With Me (this week production was announced as being pushed back), and CSI: Miami.

There is also a new weight-loss series with celebrities paired with ordinary Aussies, The Weighting Game which includes Merv Hughes (who previously appeared in two seasons of Celebrity Overhaul).

Two and a Half Men is listed for both Nine and GO! but it appears the Ashton Kutcher eps are for Nine, while the Sheen eps move to GO!.

  1. Maybe 9 could finish the previous season of CSI: Miami before fast tracking new season! Also a consistent timeslit and full season uniterrupted would be nice!!

  2. no highlights there. the only highlight i want to see on 9 is the return of hey hey its saturday. and wont watch 9 until its back on. im so happy the there ratings have been so bad this year.

  3. The big news in that list is Justified !! Which is an awesome show, the first half of the first season is a little formulaic but after that it takes on a life of it’s own and becomes something special. Knowing nine they’ll stuff it up not giving it a chance to setlle in 🙁

  4. Hope to see some great shows. Would love to see all CSIs fast tracked along with Big Bang Theory 2 1/2 Men, Mike and Molly and The Mentalist. Also looking forward to Underbelly Razor. If people are sick of Underbelly shouldnt they be sick of Rafters? Rafters have more episodes. Getaway should be an hour 7:30pm on Thursday. If it stayed it could be doing 1mil now and given 9 a few wins. Hamish and Andy look good too.

Does Nine have the rights to Happily Divorced staring Fran Drescher? It would be good to air with Hot in Cleaveland.

  5. I just noticed (since Nine has padded the list with just about every show they own) that Who Do You Think You Are? is on the list, can we assume this is the NBC version, they are currently sitting on S2 and a few left over from S1 they seem to refuse to air. Why not just put the lot on GEM and show the ones they think will rate better on Nine?

  6. The Farmer Wants a Wife,….
    Harrry’s Law,….
    Antiques Roadshow…..
Not sure what Camelot is…that is a maybe…
But that is all I get off the list.

  7. Looking forward to finally seeing Episodes but I’ll believe it when I see it. Also S2 of The Big C. Keen to check out Joy of Sets and to see if RJ Berger is any good. If they truly fast-track Top Gear they might win me back on that one.

  8. Sherlock rated well so should be treated half-way decent, unless some genius gets a bright idea about where to schedule it, worried for Camelot though. Have seen ads on 7 for teen wolf and ads on 10 for being human, glad these didn’t end up with 9.

  9. The Voice is an Aussie version. I think Joy of Sets is still some way off. As for what will make the cut, Nine has a habit of not fulfilling all it plugs. But at least there are some good titles there.

  10. “Kerry Packer’s World of Cricket” ???????

9’s got some scheduling problems with “The Block” – well, NBN and WIN mainly.

N’castle and W’gong run an hour long local/national news bulletin between 6 & 7, then screen ACA.

With The Block on 9 at 7, NBN and WIN are trying to slip in the new show at 7.30, but not every night, with catch-up eps next Saturday.

Why not just dump ACA and make viewers happy?

  11. The American version of the Voice looks good, so I am going to give it a try here too. I’m thinking premiere of 1.4m hopefully higher.
As for Underbelly, that looks fantastic. Over 1.5 million in my opinion.

I reckon the second half of the year will be far better for Nine than the first. What the network needs to do is put some stronger content on during the first half of the year and hope it rates. Case and point- Come Fly With Me. Quality will bring quantity (in terms of viewers).
    Good luck Nine.

  12. Well ch9 are gonna be hoping some of these shows grab the ratings especially after the epic failure of the first half of the year. I think Hamish & Anonymous will do wel for them until they do the typical ch9 thing and totally over expose them.

  13. Most reports are saying the voice will be on in 2011 still, and today’s release doesn’t deny it.

How is this possible? X factor started advertising auditions in early April. And is now well into production. If both shows are going to be on at the same time there is about ten weeks for The Voice to announce audition dates, film producer auditions, film judges auditions, and the 2nd round. Can’t be done.

  14. Why put Kerry Packer’s WSC on this list when there is no way it is making it to air until this time next year at the earliest. Feels a bit desperate when they don’t even have the Beaconsfield telemovie on the list which is at least in production.

  15. Hi

Love the site. About this story when it says “The Voice” are they talking about airing the american version or doing an australian version. I think this site mentioned rumors of maybe a aussie version being done.
Thanks in advance for any response

  16. Not sure how the Cricket World Cup made it onto the list. For one, it’s already finished 3 months ago and it won’t be on for another 4 years. The other reason being that Nine did a crappy job at covering it when it was on.

Looking forward to “the Games’ though. And Camelot should be pretty good. Sherlock too. Other than that, it’s looking pretty snoozeworthy.

  17. Weird they are fast tracking CSI and CSI Miami but not CSI NY.

Also now with Come Fly With Me S2 cancelled they need to take that off the list as S1 was months ago in the UK so not exactly fast tracked, Same could be said about The Mentalist, this weeks ep aired some 6 weeks ago in the US. Maybe by Nine terms that is fast? Also The Big Bang Theory, season final this week aired May 19 in the US. No new eps until sometime in September.

Good to see Mike & Molly on the list along with Episodes and Mr Sunshine, when will Nine be showing them? I know Mr Sunshine has been canceled so will it move to GO! or GEM?

BTW I know you’re on hiatus David but Getaway is listed twice.

Finally I’d like to know how fast new Top Gear UK will be coming back to Nine, returning in the UK in just 1 week, when is the mid year ratings break? I think it won’t be back until late July if we’re lucky. Also when will we get more of the local version, 4 eps at the end of the year like in 2010? And no mention of Top Gear US?

Like all things with Nine I won’t believe them until I see the opening credits!
