The watermark war continues between Seven and Nine

Seven News Brisbane got helicopter footage of an alleged abduction that Nine was keen to utilise, just without the 7 watermark.

It really doesn’t matter how big your watermark is -if the other mob want it they’ll just work around it.

In Brisbane on Friday Channel Seven’s chopper was following an alleged abduction at 11:20am as the event unfolded. It put pictures to air at 11:30am with the Seven watermark.

When a Nine helicopter arrived on scene at 11:40am apparently there wasn’t much left to see.

By 2:00pm, Nine found a way to make use of Seven’s footage in its Updates and 6pm News.

  1. Get over it. Seven began the war by claiming 9’s footage as “Exclusive” on 7. Nine fort back and used Today Tonight’s story on ACA. Every netwrok does it time to time.
I noticed that TEN News has began blurring out the logos as-well. Last night Ten News Sydney blurred the Nine logo on the 9News microphone.

  2. @Paull – that’s my reading of it, too. Seven have acted like the person who puts their name on everything of theirs in the fridge and Nine have come along and said “well, stuff you” and written “not” above the name and then eaten some of the food.

Whoever’s driving this at the two networks should have lunch together and agree to go back to the standard discreet watermarks *and* to not crop/blur/overlay them when they use each other’s footage.

  3. Don’t 7 and 9 both realise that those ridiculously large and obtrusive watermarks are actually what drive this kind of watermark avoidence behaviour. Obviously 9 aren’t going to put to air some footage that has an enormous 7 News through it, so they’ll work around it. This never happened when the networks were sensible and put their watermark in a neat corner, it encouraged rival networks to mention the source, and show the full footage with the watermark included.

  4. 9 are so pathetic. Really I have had a gutful, they make me sick. Its a shame because if I didnt hate this pathetic network so much i would watch 2 or 3 programs they attempt to broadcast.
