Where will the TEN axe fall?

Are TEN Late Night News, Sports Tonight and 6:30 with George Negus facing the chop?

After The Australian reported yesterday that jobs would go at TEN on Monday, today media are speculating as to which on-air faces might be in the firing line.

The Daily Telegraph reports that insiders believe it is TEN Late Night News and Sports Tonight are set to go first and that newsreader Sandra Sully could be the first high-profile casualty.

The Herald Sun also raises doubts about 6:30 with George Negus, which is hovering around the 500,000 mark in early evenings.

The timing is pretty bad for TEN.

On Monday it launches its new show Can of Worms, which may be what some employees think of Lachlan Murdoch’s strategic review. Later in the week TEN has a media launch for The Renovators -another apt title?

We’ll know soon enough….

  1. What about talk that sports tonight may go as well, it’s been the best and most comprehensive sports show on TV for over a decade, would be a tragedy if it went!!! Murdoch’s monopoly is simply unfair!!

  2. What Ten needs is to offer something we don’t have at 6.30. Remember Blankety Blanks? Ten needs a light hearted show that people can enjoy and have a laugh with. Yes it needs a good presenter and one like Graham Kennedy will be hard to find. Blankety Blanks worked more so on the format than Kennedy’s involvement. It was fast paced, witty and easy to watch.

These days we can get news from all sort of places (Tv, Papers, Radio, iphone, internet, billboards, etc). Sometimes you think you have switch over to ABC 24 when watching 7, 9 and 10.. Many of us just want to escape after a hard day at work….

  3. @TVLover – what rubbish. I suppose you also still adhere to the ABC being left-biased when independent studies have proven the opposite (because Howard stacked management and the board with his stooges).

Bolt gets bashed because he’s a boor and a bully, not because of his extreme right-wing views.

  4. Why is Andrew Bolt mentioned so much on this blog, when every other political TV show in this country is Pro-Labor and pretty much always has been. We have one program with a differing point of view on for a change – what a refreshing program on our screens. I’d almost call that a democracy!!

  5. can

    maher
    quarters and tim lane

no wait keep them, they would get a job on another network if they were axed. don’t dump sandra, love her heaps

  6. Lachlan Murdoch has stuffed the TEN AFL deal so why would he sack George & Sandra. Murdoch is protecting his share in Foxtel so i bet more changes are coming at TEN & when murdoch leaves TEN it will be in big financial trouble

  7. Ten late news was ruined when (a) It wasnt given a regular timeslot and (b) was merged with Sports Tonight.

Although most people dont seem to mind, Sandra makes so many reading mistakes, quite often every night, also her uncomfortable banter with who ever the sports host is, is often awkward and cringeworthy.

  8. I think a couple of scenarios may play out here:

Move 7pm to 6pm and stick Masterchef back in the slot it found its greatest success, its obvious that 9’s The Block has dominated much like TBL and MC used to, sure MC is doing ok, but the flow on effect that used to prop up the whole network is suprisingly no where to be found, Offspring should retain much more than it does and its a small spark on another otherwise dark horizon.

Negus will end up getting booted with Bolt in at 6:30pm and will take it downmarket to compete with Trash Tonight and A Sordid Affair

Why doesn’t 10 bring Working Dog back on board and stripe TGYH at 6pm, a great alternative to the news on the big 2?
