Airdate: Big Trouble in Thailand

GO! schedules an observational series following Thailand’s tourist police.

GO! has scheduled Big Trouble in Thailand, originally titled Big Trouble in Tourist Thailand, which was due to air in 2010.

Its scheduling follows recent stories on Thailand’s Full Moon Parties on both Nine and Seven, and this synopsis sure sounds like it is leaning to a sensationalist element:

Big Trouble in Thailand is a fast-moving, fly-on-the-wall series following Thailand’s tourist cops, many of whom are recruited from overseas to work alongside the local Thai police. Thailand is one of the most dangerous tourist spots to visit. Last year hundreds of foreign tourists went home in body bags and many of these deaths were caused by traffic accidents or related to drink and drugs. Filming at the front line of the clash between East and West, this series provides an insight into the Thai mindset and culture in the wake of a tourist boom.

It airs 8:30pm Thursday July 28th on GO!

  1. Good program. It’s a tricky situation for a plethora of twenty and thirty-somethings. They’re footloose, fancy free and ready to party on the beaches of Thailand. I have heard that a number of drugs are readily available at the full moon parties and many people do indulge. However, you have to be aware of the laws in a country you may be visiting. To be caught with even a small amount of marijuana in Thailand constitutes a punishment equally as harsh as you would get for harder drugs. Be careful folks.

  2. i have been to Thailand 4 times and have attended the full moon party. it is not any more dangerous than any raves in Australia. In Australia you get offered drugs aswell so its no different to Thailand. There may be more deaths in Thailand but i dont see that as there issue, tourist choose to get on a motorcycle drunk and they choose to take the drugs, if their not responsoble enough to look after themseleves and others, how is this Thailands fault. Tourism is booming there and the freedom you have in thailand is the reason. In saying that its an indivual choice of the extreame measure one will take to enjoy their holiday without anyone looking over your back.
