Airdate: Breakout Kings

ONE will premiere new US drama Breakout Kings, created by Prison Break writers.

ONE will premiere new US drama Breakout Kings next week.

In some ways the premise sounds similar to White Collar: U.S. Marshals makes a special deal to reduce the sentences of prisoners for each fugitive they help capture.

The series is created by Nick Santora and Matt Olmstead (Prison Break), and even includes a guest appearance by Robert Knepper as Theodore “T-Bag” Bagwell.

The 13 part series began in the US in March.

After 72 hours, the odds of finding an escaped prisoner drop to less than five percent. Knowing that there are few things more dangerous than a convict on the run, and tired of outdated methods of law enforcement, veteran U.S. Marshals Charlie Duchamp (Laz Alonso, Avatar, The Fast and the Furious) and Ray Zancanelli (Domenick Lombardozzi, The Wire, Entourage) decide to reject protocol and take an unorthodox approach to their work: using former fugitives to catch current ones.

Breakout Kings follows Charlie and Ray as they form a special task force composed of the three most elusive convicts Ray ever captured: Lloyd Lowery (Jimmi Simpson, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Late Show with David Letterman), a former child prodigy and behaviourist / psychiatric expert who excels in psychoanalysis; Shea Daniels (Malcolm Goodwin, American Gangster), an ex-gang banger who knows how to work the system, both in prison and on the street; and Erica Reed (Serinda Swan, Tron: Legacy, Smallville), a sexy expert tracker who learned her trade from her bounty hunter father. Charlie and Ray also employ the services of Julianne Simms (Brooke Nevin, Worst Week), a civilian who acts as the “funnel” for the group – all information, tips and data go through her.

With each fugitive they apprehend, the closer the team members get to earning their own freedom. Will the ‘Breakout Kings’ wait that long for their reward, or will they try to score by going on the run themselves?

Tonight they are on their first case- capturing escaped fugitive Andrew Tillman, who is out free and hunting down his bank robbery gang, killing them for talking his cut. Can the team find him before an innocent bystander is killed?

It begins at 9:30pm Thursday July 14th.

  1. I will give this a crack.

I don’t mind some of these shows in prime-time on ONE.

But now even non-sports programming is creeping into weekends when they said it wouldn’t.

  2. I watched the pilot and like the show, should look great in HD!

I know I wanted ONE to remain sports only but in hindsight I think they did the right think bringing on other programing for prime-time to boost the TEN Networks ratings, and it’s worked. Lately it’s been a toss up between Nine and TEN for the 2nd spot most nights.

  3. I’ve watched the first 3 episodes of this series (including the T-Bag one) was not bad, but wasn’t good enough for me to keep watching (even though my mates said it got better as it went along). I was going to watch on One but being on at the same time as The Footy Show and not being able to record One on my Satellite IQ means i’ll have to skip it.
