Dallas sequel gets series approval

The next generation of the Ewing clan has been given the thumbs up for 10 episodes.

The new version of Dallas, which looks at the next generation of the Ewing clan, has been given the thumbs up for 10 episodes.

Until now the project had been a Pilot with TNT.

The reboot reunites Larry Hagman (J.R. Ewing), Patrick Duffy (Bobby Ewing) and Linda Gray (Sue Ellen), alongside former Desperate Housewives stars Josh Henderson, Jesse Metcalfe, and Brenda Strong, as well as Jordana Brewster and Julie Gonzalo.

“TNT has explored the possibility of an updated version of Dallas for several years, but it wasn’t until we read Cynthia Cidre’s outstanding pilot script that we knew we had the foundation for a great new series,” Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies, said in a statement.

“It is incredibly exciting to see both new and familiar characters in the hands of a dream cast under the guidance of the enormously talented Cidre and Mike Robin. We couldn’t be more pleased with how Dallas has come together.”

The original Dallas aired from 1978 to 1991. Other off-shoots have included Knots Landing (1979–1993), Falcon Crest (1981–1990), Dallas: J.R. Returns (1996), Dallas: War of the Ewings (1998) and Dallas Reunion: The Return to Southfork (2004).

The update will air in the US in summer 2012.

  1. can’t wait for this – i used to love watching dallas…i think the involvement of the original cast will make it work more than the jesse metcalfe types

  2. Knots Landing had a good run on the old Optus channel oh!
AFAIK Falcon Crest had nothing to do with Dallas.

Dallas was surely one of the best TV Themes.
    JR was so evil lol

  3. Falcon Crest wasn’t an “off-shoot” of Dallas. It was not a spin-off and had no connection to the Dallas world – except following in its timeslot on Friday nights.

  4. Yes…and the updated Melrose Place and Beverly Hills 90210 were going to do wonderful things in the ratings world!! lol!!! Best of Luck!! lol!!!
