Ellie wins Immunity Pin on MasterChef

Ellie Paxton-Hall becomes the third person in MasterChef to win a coveted Immunity Pin.

21 year old Ellie Paxton-Hall has won an Immunity pin on MasterChef Australia.

The youngest contestant in the series is the third person to win the coveted prize.

She won in a Central Park challenge requiring her to cook Italian against Cesare Casella, of Salumeria Rosi.

Remarkably, it was her first Immunity challenge after saving herself from elimination in five previous pressure tests.

The good thing about the episode was there were no Spoilers, real, intended, or otherwise, and the result came out of the blue.

To win an Immunity Pin at this point of the contest is a powerful move.

There are two more episodes set in New York City, tonight and tomorrow.

  1. There’s no way Ellie will be in the final 2 because the producers of the show would know that no-one takes her seriously as a cook. But Dani might…I know there are a lot of Dani-haters out there, but imagine the show without her! She’s the only one with any sort of lively personality/commentary, so without her the producers would have no-one to provide that running narration by contestants. Who else would there be – sourpusses like Alana or Sun? Boring mumsy types like Kate? Dorky guys or himbo surfies? I think not. I am picking Surfie, Dork, Kate and Dani in the top 4.

The producers need to fix the immunity challenges which are constantly farcical, and replace the Friday night cooking show (we have enough straight-up cooking shows already) with something that’s actually interesting.

  2. As soon as Cesare flooded his pasta with sauce, we knew it was rigged, any Cheff let alone a home cook know this is not on, a very weak series, but as Matt mentioned in the paper recently they just want to go back to their real jobs, and this season shows the lack of good contestants, fair dinkum challenges and judging, it is now a pretty person/personality contest, one more season, like Aust Idol and it’s all over.

  3. This Masterchef series is the most disappointing of the last three. Where are the characters, where are the great cooks. I agree with all others that if Danni or Ellie are in the final I will not be watching and we will all know the show is rigged.

  4. I believe that the professional chef and amateur chef should cook off in a pressure test or invention test and that the amateur should not be given a head start on the professional

  5. I too agree with everyone else. This immunity challenge was way too easy and the Chef helped her way too much. He picked out all the meats for her. Fair enough to offer a few tips in a technique for example. But like everyone has said there’s been too much help where the dishes have been pretty much cooked for them. My problem is that there’s been one too many serious mistakes made by Ellie in previous challenges.

One last thing its a shame they couldn’t do a masterclass in NYC. Maybe with Martha Stewart as her studio is there.

  6. Perfect example of why this season of Masterchef is crap. Ellie is probably the worst cook there, how she even made the top 20 i don’t know. And now she has immunity. Danni is next in line, and she too won immunity. And Hayden, well can’t stand him, but the judges have picked him as a favourite and he’s a pretty boy for Ten to use for their ads.
The contestants this season have been terrible and the food have been lacking any wow factor that we’ve seen in the past 2 seasons.

  7. These judges must think the public are really stupid.A chef of this standard in New York & with his experience,a true Masterchef didn;t win over Elly;sdish it only proves to me that it must be rigged.

  8. Agree with other comments here. The immunity challenge needs a massive overhaul for next season. I’m glad they got rid of that stupid fast-tracking reward in Series One and made it a Survivor style immunity, but it seems this season that the contestants have gotten way too much help from the chefs they cook against and the peanut gallery.

To make it a true reflection of the talent and worthiness of the contestant for such a major advantage, they need to ensure:- 1) No calling out instructions from the peanut gallery, during this or the elimination rounds. It is unfair. The contestant should do all challenges unassisted and 2) The chef they are competing against not be so free with their assistance. When Dani won the pin, the chef and apprentice practically cooked the meal for her. In what way did that reflect her true skill? Likewise, last night, Don Burke, oops, Cesare the chef, gave her way too much assistance, thus “throwing” the challenge. But yeah, along with other aspects of the show that need tweaking, the immunity challenge definitely needs to be changed.

    1. I don’t mind the chef giving the odd tip to the person in the Immunity episode, it harks back to the show’s original tone of supporting people. What I do mind is the notion that the challenger should have to beat an experienced chef at their own recipe. Too hard. Both the exp. chef and the contestant should be given a new recipe and leave it at that.

  9. @ Frankie, it’s rigged because the chefs have been helping the contestants. They should not be able to help at all and some get more help than others which is not fair. What is the point of these eliminations if the other chef is helps them. Actually probably a better word than rigged is that they have become a farce.

  10. I hope Dani, Sun or Ellie don’t win….I’d be very disappointed if they do. Nice people but they are the weakest cooks. I hope Billy, Micheal (even though he can be cocky) or Kate would win.

I think next year they really need to straighten up immunity challenges. One week it it quite easy (Last night) next week it is unbelievably hard (like Kate’s challenge and she pulled through brilliantly).

Probably the fact they wanna see contestants win immunity. Instead of the Iron chef thing where the iron chef practically always win. They plan the challenges a few weeks beforehand. So it’s up to lucky draw which contestant can do the easier challenges.

  11. If they are going to keep the immunity challenge next year, there should be no calling out from other contestants. (that should be the case for eliminations as well) There should also be no help at all from the chef.

People want to see a show that is fair not rigged. I will not watch the final if either Danni or Ellie are in it. These two should have been sent home long long ago. Sun also should not be there either. I hope she or somehow Danni goes this week.

  12. ellie is a nice enough girl but she did not deserve the win.

masterchef seems to be changing the immunity challenge requirements as they go along. it was better when it was against the apprentice (even playing field imo), and with no recipe for them. they seem to change the rules when they find themselves with a crappier cook (seriously, how did ellie and dani get pins before billy and kate?!!)

last year we didnt see the contestants and professionals running to the opposing side to test their food or ask them for tips! ridiculous.

  13. Didn’t see this episode – I’m assuming the tasting was blind so can only imagine that somehow Ellie managed to pull one out of the hat. I don’t feel one way or the other about her personally but I agree with other posts here that not just the immunity tests but other aspects of the competition this season have been unbalanced, ie some contestants sent packing by one bad meal in a pressure test but being overall a far more skilled and creative cook than others who manage to get it right on the night and win through. I don’t know what the answer is but something like a points system would be fairer where contestants accrue points throughout challenges and the person with the lowest total is the one to go at the end of each week. Maybe that’d be too boring though!

  14. They’re blind tastings, the judges don’t know whose dish they are eating. I don’t get the peple suggesting these challangers are rigged. Yes some are easier than others, I think that is a good thing. If the chef last night wanted to help Ellie so much and he then lost, that’s his problem. Entertaining guy thiough.

  15. You have got to be joking!
Lovely girl but one of the weakest cooks
Really is a bit of a joke this show as weaker cooks sneak thru in the middle of the pack or amidst a winning group while the better cooks make a couple of mistakes and exit.

  16. I think that the immunity challenges are a bit of a farce. They seem to be given away this year and not earned. At this stage of the comp it seems like they are lining up who their finalists will be. I wont watch a finale that has Dani as a contestant. Chocolate lollypops and milkshakes are not worthy of masterchef.

  17. Yes the result did come out of the blue. I hope they scrap the immunity pin next year. I feel it very unfair that someone who has been a consistently bad performer is now almost guaranteed a place in the final at the expense of better cooks. The immunity challenges this year have been very unbalanced. How can one compare cooking a plate of pasta matriciana to let’s say for example an Adriano Zumbo creation which is in fact a true challenge. Maybe I’m a bit slow but this is the first time that “rigged” has crossed my mind. Not happy.

  18. knew she’d do it! After all the immunity challenge is almost like a pressure test where they have to recreate something, and she is fantastic at those!

  19. So glad I chose not to watch this last night.

The show appears to be hellbent on getting Ellie and Danni into the Final 2.

If they are in the final 2 – I will give the finale a big big big miss.

  20. David, just wondering why don’t you put a spoiler alert on these Masterchef announcements? I was looking forward to watching this when I got home tonight.

  21. Well done to her, but she seriously gets on my nerves. I find her only marginally more tolerable than Dani. Lovely setting in Central Park last night, by the lake.
