Insiders 10th anniversary

ABC's quiet achiever programme on Sunday mornings marks its tenth anniversary this weekend.

This Sunday ABC’s political review show Insiders marks its tenth anniversary.

Hosted by Barrie Cassidy, the show is a quiet achiever on Sunday mornings, having interviewed all the big names and dissected the key political issues across the last decade.

Over the past 10 years, Insiders has covered changes of government, leaders of parties, major political crises and key national affairs moments while keeping viewers entertained along the way.

“Insiders entered a very crowded Sunday morning political market ten years ago. But we took a very different approach, offering a far more extensive, irreverent and robust treatment of the week in politics.

“As a result, our audience numbers have grown year on year to the point where the program now leads the field. It is very satisfying to start a new program from scratch, stealing nothing from anybody, and then see it still thriving after ten years,” said Insiders’ Host, Barrie Cassidy.

Mike Bowers began hosting the ‘Talking Pictures’ segment, soon after the program first went to air. Joined by a guest, he reviews the compelling work of the nation’s cartoonists and photographers.

“What we didn’t realise initially, was that it gave cartoonists and photographers who worked for state based metropolitan newspapers a national audience. The power of these images to influence our political discussion was evident from the start.”

Regular panellists include journalists, Annabel Crabb, Piers Akerman, Malcolm Farr, Lenore Taylor and David Marr.

It airs at 9am Sunday on ABC1.
