Actress Lisa McCune is officially trying her hand at producing, with a feature film project The Diary of Jimmy Porter.

Based on the book by prolific writer Christine Harris, the project is one of eight feature films to have received development investment from Screen Australia.

To be directed by Nadia Tess, the tale set in the outback in 1927 teams McCune once again with Blue Heelers producer Gus Howard and writer Tony Morphett.

Last year McCune told TV Tonight she was looking to extend her work beyond acting to producing.

“Now that I’m a bit older and confident I’m a bit more willing to take a risk. I’ve optioned a book, and there’s a play that I’d like to option. I’ve got a lot of people who are giving me good advice. No matter what comes of it, it adds to my sensibilities as an actor to know what goes on on the other side of the camera,” she said.

  1. I like Lisa McCune and it is good to see her all round career developing. My only disappointment is that she is never likely to star in the type of genre that I would like to see her in!!!!!
