Peter Meakin renews deal with Seven

Seven's News and Current Affairs boss Peter Meakin has signed a new two-year contract with the network.

Seven’s News and Current Affairs boss Peter Meakin has signed a new two-year contract with the network, ending on-going speculation that he might be replaced.

He will now remain in the role until 2013.

There was talk that Brisbane news boss Rob Raschke was poised for the position, following negative press over Seven’s report on NSW politician David Campbell leaving a sex on premises venue, and Sunday Night ‘s story about SA Premier Mike Rann.

At the time Meakin denied he was leaving or would be replaced.

When asked about why it took so long to sign a new contract, he told The Australian, “I don’t know — I had more important things to worry about.”

  1. Well Seven couldn’t possibly think about generational change now after the James Warbuton debacle. Same old dinosaurs looking after each other. Commercial TV is totally stagnant. Is Peter Meakin the future of 7 News/CAFF? Scary that anyone thinks so.

  2. Well, that’s another 2 years that I won’t be watching. Seven’s trash might be rating a little better than Nine’s most nights but they have missed an opportunity to elevate themselves above that level and achieve even better ratings.

  3. I think he needs to lift his game in the current news environment – Mark Calvert surely has done his best in terms of promotion and reinforcing that you can “seeitfirst”…. etc

  4. At least one network will have a well run news service for another 2 years.
Pretty shallow down the other end of the talent pool!
