Hollywood is planning a big screen feature on the life of The Twilight Zone creator, Rod Serling.

Serling’s influence in storytelling and sci-fi is significant. The Twilight Zone elevated scripted television with thought-provoking science fiction tales, each with a great and unexpected plot twist.

But before he became an iconic TV figure, Serling had a life of struggle that included a stint as a paratrooper and member of the demolition squad in the Army during WWII. Stationed in the Philippines, he saw more than his share of death as the US battled the Japanese, and his experiences would inform much of what he would write later. He worked his way into radio and then became a TV writer.

He also co-wrote the script for the 1968 sci-fi classic Planet of the Apes, based on the Pierre Boull novel.

The film will be produced by Andrew Meieran and his Bureau of Moving Pictures, in conjunction with Serling’s widow Carol Serling. Stanley Weiser, who wrote Wall Street with Oliver Stone, will script the movie.

  1. Long overdue – I just hope that the demographic that attends the movies these days get enticed into Serling’s intelligence zone…

  2. This guy is a legend, he not only made one of the greatest sci-fi series ever The Twilight Zone but also the similar lesser known gem Night Gallery and many excellent movies of which the original Planet Of The Apes would have to be right at the top. He’s one of the big names in sci-fi that will never be forgotton.
