Rumour: The Block season 5

Has Nine already made its next real estate purchase for a new season of The Block?

Rumour: It’s doing good business so far, but could Nine have already begun plans for a fifth season of The Block?

TV Tonight is hearing whispers that Nine has moved quickly to secure another property for a new season.

If the rumours prove true, the show will remain in Melbourne, with 4 more houses next to each other somewhere in South Yarra.

  1. My husband and I are sick to death of The Block. Viewers get nothing out of the show except shouting, arguing, rushing around buying crappy decorator items and completely useless side competitions. In previous episodes of this program viewers were able to learn about renovating and decorating. This show is a complete shambles and should be scrapped if this is all the production team can come up with. We were once avid fans of Scott Cam, but we are increasingly becoming frustrated with his antics. In other words, this show has lost its credibility!!

  2. how do i enter the competition for the next season of the block
love the show but competitors need to do more work than just shopping and painting

  3. I love the show but have to agree that we are seeing more decorating and shopping from the contestants than renovating. I’d like to know if the contestants designed the renovations/extensions to their properties. How much input have they had in roofing as I noticed now the pictures show new rooves.

  4. What have channel 9 done to ‘The Block’. What a load of rubbish. Challenges, beauty treatments, shopping expeditions. And tradesmen doing all the reno’s, what’s that all about. Sorry Channel 9. You hit the mark last year, but this year you have destroyed what was a riveting show. What a shame…..

  5. Will Scott Cam please stop whistling the contestants like a dog. It is not only rude
but terribly degrading and annoying. I cant believe they all answer to this rudness.

  6. Lets face it, this was programming genius by Nine. 7pm has been stale for years and their was an audience screaming out for something, anything and the leaner content stripped Block has proved them all right. The Block last year was brilliant and this year is solid, I reckon Seven execs will be crying in their beers at the moment and Nine is laughing all the way to the bank.

  7. Like so many others on here, my interest with this season’s format is slipping. I record every episode so that I can fast forward all the “drama” and silly challengers. I’m interested in the renovating and I can’t say i’ve seen much of that. I much prefer the old block.

  8. Hi Shelley,
in this series the contestants don’t go to work, I think the theory behind that was that as they were renovating houses, they needed more time on site.
I have to agree with previous comments, I’m yet to see any real renovating yet, which is very disappointing. I don’t really care about the challenges, I want to see what they can do to their rooms.
The only real reno I’ve seen has been the two sisters getting all upset and offended because they were told their fireplace wasn’t up to building regulations, resulting in much crying and door slamming. And the couple who didn’t want a ceiling rose because she thought they were ugly. A bit ridiculous when you consider they are never going to live there, and it’s supposed to be about maximising profit.
Despite the couples going to work every day, the previous series managed to show significantly more renovating. I’ll give it another week, but if it doesn’t impove I think I’ll be switching off.

  9. Has anybody noticed that the contestants don’t seem to be going to work every day like they used to? Or have I just not been paying attention?

  10. I agree with Andy.

I watch “The Block” for the renovations. I completely skipped the “challenge” episodes on Tuesday and Thursday nights last week and if we don’t start seeing more of the “renovations” soon, then I’ll be skipping the remainder of the series in its entirety. We’ve barely been shown anything to do with this weeks renovations, yet all the teams have pretty much finished their rooms (as shown in Friday’s episode). I have no interest in simply being down a crap room on Monday, watching contestants get their nails done, sitting through dull and pointless challenges and “guest appearances” by past Block participants, then suddenly being shown the finished room the following Monday.

And I’m still not sure what is happening with the extensions. If Channel 9 is responsible for all the building work of the extensions (as opposed to the participants), then I really don’t see how the final weeks will be interesting if the participants are simply finishing off large sections of the houses which were built by Channel 9 for them to simply paint, floor and decorate. They’re meant to be renovating, not building what it seems will almost amount to a brand-new house.

  11. Big Bang Theory was still doing decently at 7pm when it was dumped, if it is still doing well next year, could 9 keep it there and move the Block head to head with masterchef, stripped 7:30 right after easter? ratings wise, it would make sense, The block is standing up well to MC at the moment. and 9 doesn’t have any other 7:30 shows that would do any better.

  12. A friend of mine gave me a link to a website that he thinks is casting for what could be the next series of The Block, so it doesn’t surprise me that they might be looking at properties too.

  13. @Andy I agree – I want to see the renovation process and actually learn a thing or two. This is where I think Ten’s “The Renovators” will excel – it sounds like it’s the Masterchef of renovating. I only watched the first episode of The Block, and most of the time was spent showing the women shopping and driving.

  14. Maybe because it’s stripped across the week, I’ve it not as engaging as previous years. Each night I haven’t sat down to watch, might have flicked it on for a few minutes, whereas when it was once a week I would watch the whole show. What I’ve watched, again seems to have veered away from the design and rennovations and more about the ‘drama’. But that’s just me. Much preferred the previous style.

  15. Last year I thought the show needed to be across more nights a week so they could show less “story” and more actual renovating. This year they get 3.5 hours a week, and they still just show story, and when they run out of story they spend whole episodes doing silly challenges looking for blocks in furniture stores and building fake walls. Now I hope they go back to an hour a week so we can watch them actually design a room. Seems they try to hold Everything back until the reveal, but I want to watch the process.
