The Hive looking for arts-based films

ABC and the Adelaide Film Festival are on the hunt for bold audacious stories in the arts genre.

The Hive, ABC’s joint production fund with the Adelaide Film Festival, has received a $200,000 boost from The Australia Council for the Arts, now totalling $600,000.

Launched earlier this year the Hive Production Fund seeks to support the production of selected arts-based films and documentaries for cinema and television.

It’s looking for one-off, ambitious arts films, with bold and imaginative cross-platform ideas and strategies, to have world premieres at the 2013 Adelaide Film Festival and screen on ABC TV. The funding initiative is designed to support one-off, stand-alone films for production and post-production – be they half hour, one hour or feature length projects.

Amanda Duthie, Head of ABC TV Arts & Entertainment says, “This is an amazing funding opportunity for artists to create original work for cinema and TV audiences. We are looking for bold audacious stories, told by artists, for Australian audiences.”

Katrina Sedgwick, Director of the Adelaide Film Festival says “The Hive Lab was originally conceived to address what appeared to be an artificial divide between film and the arts in terms of creative collaborative, cross-art form opportunities. To have the Australia Council engage so enthusiastically with this production initiative is very exciting. We can’t wait to see what work will emerge now that this funding door has been opened.”

Applicants can apply for:

  • up to $100,000 for a half-hour documentary
  • up to $200,000 for a one-hour documentary
  • up to $250,000 for a one-hour short feature
  • up to $400,000 for a feature length work

Applications at www.adelaidefilmfestival.org  have been extended to 5pm on Friday 26 August, 2011.
