The Tunnel coming to iView

Next month iView will offer the recent Australian horror movie The Tunnel, which was financed by selling $1 shares to the public for its $135,000 budget.

It was then released simultaneously via the BitTorrent online network, cinema and DVD.

Producers Enzo Tedeschi and Julian Harvey, made the move frustrated by the movie industry’s conventional outlook towards the online community and internet piracy.

Starring Bel Delia and Andy Rodoreda, it is set amongst Sydney’s underground tunnels and follows a news crew’s journey into the dark labyrinths hunting for a story, until they become the hunted.

In 2007 the New South Wales government suddenly scrapped a plan to utilise the water in the disused underground train tunnels beneath Sydney CBD.

In 2008, chasing rumours of a government cover up and urban legends surrounding the sudden back flip, investigative journalist Natasha Warner led a crew of four into the underground labyrinth.

This is the film of their harrowing ordeal. With unprecedented access to the recently declassified footage they shot in the claustrophobic subway tunnels, as well as a series of candid interviews with the survivors, we come face to face with the terrifying truth.

iView will offer the film for one month from August 14th.

  1. Not a good movie. I was very disappointed by it having hoped for something first-rate. Starts out well, but goes downhill towards the end and finally we learn nothing, no explanation for the horror, many loose ends are left hanging, just like the audience.

It’s well made, mostly well acted, and the basic plot premise is excellent, but it’s let down by an incomplete and unpolished script and rather too much use of the now rather dated and boring “shaky-cam” technique. I’m glad they gave it away on the web, I’d have been upset to have paid money for this at a theatre.
