Airdate: Wild Boys

Seven's new bushranger drama will premiere on Sunday September 4th.

Seven’s new drama will premiere at 7:30pm Sunday September 4th.

The bushranger series, as first revealed last November by TV Tonight, wrapped on production yesterday and a media launch is slated for late next week.

Produced by Southern Star, the series boasts terrific production values taking viewers back to our colonial past.

Watch out for Jeremy Sims and Nathaniel Dean as ‘villains’ having the most fun and newcomer Alexander England as wild boy Conrad Fischer.

  1. I still think this is a weird timeslot. Why not go 8:30 Thursday? They are airing nothing there apart from movies.

It will probably rate well at first, but I can’t help but feel this will be extremely by the numbers. Why cast Daniel MacPherson and Zoe Ventoura again? Why not go with a fresh cast, similar to Underbelly: Razor?

I reckon initial figure of 1.5 million, with it stablising to 1.2 million in weeks to come

  2. And another thing why do people continue to pick at shows like meat to a bone ? does anyone actually try to watch and enjoy a show instead of putting there critics hats on , in order to sound superior ? .

  3. i knew it would be a 7.30pm timeslot. theyd be nuts to put it against underbelly, especially when they know that Bones and Castle can hold up against it at 8.30pm.

  4. The ads made it look so much more then a 7:30pm show, like others have said it could have been our Deadwood but now it’s going to be our Lamewood.

  5. Like others commenting here I think 7:30 is an odd choice. I thought it was going up against Razor giving the audience a choice between the profanity and vulgarity of Razor with something with a bit of humour and style – but now I’m worried Seven have programmed it here because they’re acknowledging it’s a bit tame, and therefore a bit lame.

  6. Thank God this isn’t replacing Bones. If they stop screening Bones at this stage of the season, after we Finally got it back, I’m boycotting Seven.

  7. Wow I was expecting an 8:30 timeslot for sure. Arent there sexual scenes in it and language? I guess they cant be aired. But im looking foward to it.

  8. I’m sure it will deliver on the ratings front. Period dramas like this have always done well – Cash and Company, Rush, All The Rivers Run, Man from Snowy River, etc, they’ve all rated solidly.

Seven have the Midas touch with Australian drama at the moment. They have the market sussed very well and everything they touch is turning to gold. Nine would kill to have their touch with with weekly drama series at the moment, given that Nine can’t laterally think out of the crime/police procedural box.

  9. 7.30? Geez and here I was expecting something gritty like Deadwood. When I first heard the idea, I loved it and looked forward to it. Then I heard Daniel Macpherson was cast and thought well that’s not so good, won’t be expecting great acting then. And now i’ve seen the previews, I’m even more disappointed. Macpherson doesn’t cut it. And now with 7.30 timeslot it seems it’s just gonna be a bushranger soapie series. I’ll give it a go. But the show sounding like it had so much promise, but has already failed to deliver.

  10. I am really surprised Wild Boys will be shown at 7.30pm and on a Sunday, (10 years ago, Always Greener was also shown in this timeslot). It means Seven will have to edit out violent and sexual content to fit with the classification for the timeslot.

  11. Seen the previews continually but the thing that strikes me as interesting is I never thought that Bushrangers had such great dentists back then. Those pearly whites on Daniel and others does not seem a good fit to this period piece.

  12. David, is that meant to be 7:30pm instead of 8:30pm. Wasn’t expecting that. Probably a very smart move if so. Hope its not too “lightweight” of a program being PG.

  13. Classification wise what does this have to be rated to be able to be shown in a 7.30pm timeslot and will all the episodes be able to be screened at 7.30pm. Also this all but confirms The X Factor will be on Mon/Tues this year.
