Australian viewers to miss X Factor (USA)

Australian viewers won't be seeing Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul reunite on The X Factor USA because it conflicts with the local series.

It’s set to be one of the biggest shows on US TV next month but Australian viewers won’t be seeing The X Factor (USA).

The talent series that reunites Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul will be kept off screen because it conflicts with The X Factor Australia.

FremantleMedia Australia confirmed to TV Tonight that parties prefer not to dilute the brand.

This follows similar advice from Channel Seven last month. As the format holder, Seven doesn’t envision screening both shows at the same time, while it has paid a premium to produce the local edition featuring Ronan Keating, Guy Sebastian, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Mel B.

That also rules out Foxtel from being able to pick up the series for the immediate future.

But what if there is another Susan Boyle moment?

This week Foxtel announced it would screen America’s Got Talent, featuring Sharon Osborne, Howie Mandel and Piers Morgan later this year, while GO! screens The Voice (US) from next week.

  1. Bring on the X Factor USA I Love watching Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul I hope it does go to air here on 7TWO even if we have to wait until December it will be worth it.

  2. Ir makes sense for Seven to choose not to air it. Although our version is “expensive” and really well produced it pales in comparison to what the American show will be like. The rumoured cost of ours is $25 million. It has been reported that the American show will cost in excess of $150 million. This show is Simon’s pet project. There’s no doubt that this show will be nothing short of breathtaking. So putting it to air at the same time as ours would be stupid.
I for one am excited about our version. From the promo on AGT the other night it’s shaping up to be quite an epic season. And once again they’ve secured A list stars for the judges house’s round. Very excited.

  3. I’m sorry this is basic business sense. It’s in the best interest of Seven and The X Factor (to keep the show being produced in as many territories around the world as possible)

Anyone saying “this sucks” doesn’t understand not only television but business in general

  4. “It says it conflicts with X Factor Australia” so the way i am seeing that is that it airs the same time. It is still possible that it will air over Summer on either Seven itself but most likely to be 7mate or 7two but not right now. Thats how i see it.

I am disappointed that we won’t be seeing it here as America does because this series is going to be huge. I can understand why Seven are worried though because this could outshine the Australian version.

  5. well its been shows time & time again that airing the US versions while an Aus version is being made is only detrimental to the whole brand. and i agree that the Aus version should take priority. but I do think airing it during summer would be a good compromise, but by then it would be so low-profile it would probably just be daytime digital fodder, some people would still be interested.

  6. I would have loved to have seen Simon and Paula back together. American Idol has not been as good since.

Seven have every right to be worried about X-Factor. Will definitely not be watching the Australian version. It was very mediocre last year and is shaping up as another non-event.

  7. Such a shame – can’t see why they whether it be Seven, 7mate, or Pay TV can’t show it over summer when there is nothing else on.

It won’t hurt the brand, it will in fact help build it – especially if it was to premiere off the back of the Australian final. They should do the same with Dancing with The Stars as well – some of us would kill to see the US version.

  8. Not happy about this – why can’t people be given the choice!
If they were to both screen here I would watch both for sure, I love seeing new talent!

  9. Well, even ITV in the uk looks likely to delay this for fear of taking away from their local version, and x- factor is enormous in Britain, so, seven not airing it is no huge shock. Hopefully we will see this over summer though, once our version is over for the year
