Call for entries: Movie Extra Webfest

Could you use a $50,000 production budget and create a seven part webseries?

Movie Network Channels has announced the Movie Extra Webfest for the second year running.

The competition gives aspiring filmmakers the opportunity to win a $50,000 production budget to produce a seven part webseries.

Last year’s winner, Henry & Aaron’s 7 Steps to Superstardom (pictured) was chosen from over 100 submissions to Facebook and attracted over 16,000 fans. Since June it has achieved over 69,000 views on YouTube. Two more entrants,  Livin with Steve, Shaaark! and Mollusks are in development with Movie Network Channels for a September web premiere.

To apply you must pitch an original webseries via a 60 second trailer onto the Movie Extra Webfest Facebook competition page. The winner will be decided through a combination of social media votes and judges.

Peter Jenetsky, General Manager of Content Strategy & Marketing for Movie Network Channels said, “We are now entering a decade of ‘platform polygamy’ where consumers are readily engaging with internet and mobile video platforms as well as social networks to seek, discover, and engage with content and brands. It is therefore vital to our continuing product development strategies to embrace and explore new platforms and relevant content creation opportunities.”

Entries close 16 October and finalists will be announced 7 November.

  1. Speaking of which, whatever happened to the Comedy Channel Comedy Gold competition? A single episode of the first year’s winner aired, but any word on the second winner, the My Girlfriend’s Hidden Camera Show?

  2. This is a great innitiative. If i had time i would dovelope something for internet tv. I know that i have some good ideas. Anyway didnt Network Ten do something like this last year to promote their new channel 11. i wonder what has happened to that? Looks like only pay tv wants to give creative people a chance oh well more bragging rights for them.
