Hot Tip: Rob Mills to host new-look Young Talent Time

Exclusive: Former Australian Idol singer Rob Mills will be the host of TEN's rebooted Young Talent Time for 2012.

EXCLUSIVE: TV Tonight understands Rob Mills will be announced as host of the rebooted Young Talent Time tonight at TEN’s 2012 Programming Launch.

Since he first appeared on Australian Idol, ‘Millsy’ has been working in recording, television presenting and a lead role in the stage musical, Wicked, for which he attracted good reviews.

He also has a small role acting and singing in Underbelly: Razor.

The revival of Young Talent Time is believed to be part of TEN’s plans to replace AFL on Saturday nights.

Mills will be able to bring singing and presenting skills to the new-look show which is expected to have a resident troupe and weekly contestants.

Original host Johnny Young will have a behind the scenes consulting role on the show, which began on 0-TEN back in 1971.

  1. Fantastic choice. I can see him working well with kids. This show will work providing they give it a decent budget to work with and bring it into this century. At the same time they have to be sympathetic to the original. This show in the 70 s and 80 s did what Idol did a few years ago. It was a genuine starmaker and a high quality show for its day. Really hope this show works as it is an Aussie original but can’t imagine anyone singing “All My lovin” better than John Young.

  2. Ten has’nt had much to Celebrate on Saturday Nights since YTT left the airwaves at the end of 1988, They could’nt compete with Hey, Hey it’s Saturday over on Nine which was Dominant at the Time.

  3. Millsy!!! Perfect choice! He’s great talent and a top bloke.

Since his early days when he appeared on the scene and garnered some positive (and some not so positive) publicity through Australian Idol, he’s gone from strenghth to strength. He put in the hard yards as one of the hosts on Nine’s The Mint, performing in Wicked and acting roles in Winners & Loser and now Razor. He has built a good, reliable reputatuon in the industry and it looks like it is now paying off.

He’s young and fun and just a bit cheeky, just like Johnny Young was when he started hosting YTT at the age of 23 back in 1971. (Don’t forget that Johnny had had his own controversial moments in his youth – becoming a father at just 16 years old, experiments with LSD and so on. He was able to rise above all that to lead one of the most popular “family shows” in Australia’s television history!)

  4. I’m surprised at the initial reactions in these comments. Rob Mills feels like a great choice for the role – he has a cheeky childlike charm to him and he can sing.

  5. This is a joke right? ha ha so funny now who is it really?

This guy has less charisma than a rock and should only be known for the one thing he is known, sleeping with Paris Hilton.

  6. Yuck – Never been a fan of Millsy. No leadership there. Just came accross as a guy with a huge ego and was not that talented anyway. Maybe he was cheap. Maybe he has developed since Idol days. Hope so!

  7. So is YTT a reality series in terms of the modern term i.e. a competition like AGT or will it theoretically be a year-round type program?? Like a Hey-Hey????

  8. Couldnt they find someone connected to YTT or JYTS? There are a numerous number of people that should be considered before Rob. I have nothing against Rob but feel someone else would be more suited.
Why not Anna Young, Johnny Young’s daughter who hosted the C31 programme or Anthony Callea who went to JYTS.

  9. The show will never work. Hey Hey proved that viewers only want a little bit of nostalgia, not every week for 2-3 months. Also talk about shooting yourself in the foot, Rob Mills……….really?

  10. AFL on Saturday nights eh ? That only occurs where I am when the Sydney Swans are involved.

This programme smells like a disaster already – it will bomb and Ten will be back to showing its usual array of Adam Sandler repeats.
