Michael through to MasterChef final

Michael Weldon is the first contestant through to the MasterChef final for 2011 as Kate and Alana battle for the last place.

Michael Weldon is the first contestant through to the MasterChef final for 2011.

The 25 year old film projectionist from South Australia secured a place in the final last night ahead of his female competitors Alana Lowes and Kate Bracks.

Both women will battle it out for a chance to compete in tonight’s elimination challenge.

Michael secured his place after cooking dishes in a three-hatted Sydney restaurant, EST. Alana went Marque, and Kate to Quay. He served up venison with beetroot, a chestnut puree and a juniper jus for Matt Preston and two guest judges.

After hearing he had won the chance to compete in the final an elated Michael called it “the best day of my life!”

Tonight Alana and Kate face the deadly patissier Adriano Zumbo and another wild concoction, an elaborate gingerbread house. Zumbo’s macaron towers and V8 cakes have tested the best MasterChef contestants -it’s bound to be a taxing challenge for the final two ladies left standing.

  1. This guy is not a better chef than the others, remember when he won 2 challanges and the award was he got to find out the next days dish and got to study it( 2 times) But both timess he still ended up in the elimination!
I agree if this guy wins i will be p*ssed off major!

  2. Im happy that Michael won. I reckon the main or dessert were the best chances to win because you can put more on a plate. Poor Alana didnt have much chance doing entree because its only a starter therefore you dont want to put to much on a plate.

But the 3 of them did really well and I would have been nervous as hell and scared to death having to put up a 3 hat dish. Im looking foward to tonight and that gingerbread house looks amazing.

On a side note I hotught Donna Hay was going to be on more in this series. I dont think we have seen her.

  3. What a joke MC has become with the likes of the fool they put through to the final. Kate won easily, especially since the chef the fool cooked for said his dressing was like vomit.

Shame on the MC’s head judges, you got this one wrong big time

  4. @ Elisabeth. Whatever it is, it seriously looks to have detached from his head and levitated about 4 inches. It’s like the gravity-defying lettuce on burgers in the McDonald’s ads…way too upright or something.

  5. No no no no! Not happy at all. I have not liked Michael from day one. If he wins then this competition is bull****. Anyway Alana was doomed from the start because how can you win with an entree. Seriously. Whoever wins tonight has to beat this person.

  6. Uughh. After what was said about his puree, I thought Kate had won this challenge. But the judges seem to really like him. I thought Michael’s reaction was over the top and he is coming across as somewhat immature (the arrogance, fake humility, the zoning out during the challenge). Now I really want Kate to win – she has a great energy about her.

  7. Anyone noticed how much Michael looks like Gary! it’s uncanny & probably a sign that it’s rigged. Kate & Alana should be in the final.

  8. Yay, As I have said previously, MIchael to win..
How Awesome was his reaction last night???!!!??
    Good Stuff.
The only horrid thing is someone has to go between Alana and Kate, they are both great chefs, but I’d like Kate to go forward, Alana will be okay.
Can’t wait for Zumba’s gingerbread house, how utterly gorgeous.

  9. Small correction, he cooked venison, not veal. Well done to South Australians this is the third year in a row one of them has been in the final two.
