Returning: Living Black

Indigenous news and current affairs programme Living Black returns to SBS, now adding a musical performance each week.

Indigenous news and current affairs programme Living Black returns to SBS One next month with a new addition to its format.

As well as telling stories from an Indigenous perspective this season each episode will feature a musical performance.

This new element to the show will be a platform on which to showcase the rich Indigenous talent in this country and will include a mix of both up and coming fresh new faces and established performers. These include Microwave Jenny, newcomer Nellie Dargan, the talented Col Hardy, Nangral, PJ Gordon, Daniel Stockley, Marcus Corowa, Yung Nooky and new faces Ngaratya. Ngaratya is a Sydney born and Redfern based sister act that is said to be Missy Higgins meets Aretha Franklin.

With Karla Grant, one of Australia’s foremost Indigenous female media personalities at the helm, the Living Black team includes video journalists Allan Clarke, Josh Ridgeway and recently appointed Daniel Conifer, as well as a host of other SBS news reporting specialists such as Richard Davis, Bill Code and Larteasha Smith, and with contributions from our state correspondents.

“The team and I are really excited to be introducing audiences to a variety of exciting new Indigenous bands and solo artists and adding another element to our program each. I am constantly moved and inspired by the talent of our people,“ said Karla Grant.

In the new season, Living Black will continue to provide comprehensive and insightful coverage of Indigenous issues that are relevant for all Australians. From topical news and current affairs, to features examining stories in more detail, as well as showcasing and celebrating Indigenous triumphs – Living Black gives all Australians a place to learn about the nation’s first peoples.

Sunday 4 September at 4.30pm on SBS ONE.
