The Block‘s sisters Amie Godde, 31, and Katrina Chambers, 33, have said their shopping exploits have been exaggerated on the show.

The two told the Border Mail not everything that had been aired on the renovation series was completely accurate.

“The amount of shopping we’ve done on the show has been absolutely blown out of proportion,” said Goode.

“We were just there to fit a stereotype.

“There are some episodes we’ve been happy with and moments when we thought ‘that’s not how it happened at all’.”

  1. So … all the scenes of them having their hair or nails done or out shopping for hours on end were either filmed with their identical twins or Channel 9 spent millions creating CGI doubles and inserting them into those scenes?

    The editing may not be accurate, but anyone going on reality TV should know that, but I highly doubt they fabricated the actual footage of them spending lots of time doing anything other than renovating.

The article itself is a bit of a beatup… they probably had a bit of a chat and as part of that mentioned how the show had “kept showing us shopping” – and the reporter has then run the whole story playing up that particular focus. Which itself is exactly what the show had done. Everyone’s gotta have an angle.

Honestly, I think we’re all well aware that reality shows mess with real life to make good television, and a bit tired of these media reports (whether they be genuine or stage-managed by publicity depts – because even ‘bad’ publicity is good publicity) of ‘stunned’ contestants whinging of how they are being portrayed.

    It’s been going on since the days of ‘Johnny Rotten’ in the first series of Big Brother (10 years ago!)… I think we get it by now.

    If the contestants are genuinely stunned then they are the fools. If the PR depts are manufacturing these reports then, guess what, we know already.
