The Footy Show (NRL) reaches 500 episodes

This week Paul “Fatty” Vautin celebrates 500 episodes, looking back on highlights from the show's history with "Sterlo."

Their ratings aren’t exactly much to crow about but tomorrow night The Footy Show (NRL) celebrates 500 episodes.

The show has now been on air for 18 years, helping to complement Nine’s NRL commitments. Nine CEO David Gyngell is also a big fan.

The man who was there right at the start, Paul “Fatty” Vautin, takes a trip down memory lane with his long-time partner in crime, Parramatta great Peter “Sterlo” Sterling, as they look back on the best and funniest moments from the six-time Logie Award-winning show.

Joining Fatty and Sterlo to celebrate tomorrow night at 9.30pm on Channel Nine will be Mario Fenech, Darryl Brohman, Andrew Johns, Brad Fittler and Tigers winger Beau Ryan.

Each panellist will select a favourite moment over the years, including the best of Mario Fenech and Robbo, while The Footy Show’s resident funny man, Beau Ryan, does his reveal-all segment when Beau Knows The Footy Show.

The lads will also recap the big stories audiences have tuned in to over the years and former Footy Show regular, Paul “The Chief” Harragon, will look at the best of Beat the Boys, Daredevil Dudes, One-on-One and Chief vs. the Chimp.

Enjoy 18 years of highlights selected by Footy Show viewers, relive the best music parodies and live crosses gone astray, and don’t miss the obligatory bloopers reel.

Meanwhile the tables are turned on Ryan Girdler’s popular segment, Their House, when we catch up with Ryan at his house.

And the show crosses live to Cowboys co-captain Johnathan Thurston and Broncos skipper Darren Lockyer in Brisbane ahead of the big Friday Night Football clash on Nine at 9.30pm.

Thursday at 9.30pm on Nine (11.15pm VIC, 11.45pm SA/WA).

  2. congratulations on the big 500 guys you all deserve it , great show bring on mario….I have a special hello to brad fittler , best of luck for another 500.xx

  3. I watch both the NRL & AFL Footy Shows each week. I have to say that Beau Ryan is not only funny, but also one of the sexiest men I have ever laid eyes on

  4. Cheer up, you call it bad…in comparison to what? It is a lighthearted look at the footy featuring the game’s top playears, nothing more, nothing less.

  5. Can someone explain me how a show that consists on retired over-hyped footy players who brag about all things nrl has been on far too long & somehow earned logie awards?. the same applies to the afl version.

The hosts are very sexist & an aussie version of “The Man Show” (minus bikini women). The tried to add a female cohost, but was dumped after one ep as they ( & male viewers ) wanted it still as an all blokes show.

The only females that have been on the show have been used as ‘lady lucks’

Their attempts of spoofing ads were appauling & creepy..

  6. Wonder if they’ll show any of the Ray Hadley bits? Yeah…..don’t see that happening.
This show pushes the bogan Rugby League culture with halfwits like Fatty and Brad Fittler. They’re not a patch on Garry Lyon or James Brayshaw in Victoria AFL land. Sterlo should be back, but instead they put Darryl Brohman in to tow the ‘idiot’ line, even though he’s quite intelligent and knows more about the game than the others.
500 episodes, but even the jumped shark is long dead on this stinker.

  7. I wonder whether this show will be on when the Nine Network loose the NRL rights. They will not have it for much longer. The show is crap it does nothing to promote the game in SA and WA. I guess the same can be said for the AFL footy show in terms of not promoting AFL in the NSW and QLD region.

  8. Haven’t watched the NRL Footy Show since One launched The Game Plan (NRL) this year.

Also the Friday Night game is on at 7:30pm in Queensland/NT (9:30pm NSW/ACT)
