Ticking clock on Australia’s Got Talent final

Australia's Got Talent not only put on a spectacle for its finale, they managed to turn it around in a ridiculous time frame.

Australia’s Got Talent not only put on a spectacle for its finale, they managed to turn it around in a ridiculous time frame.

Usually the shows have been recorded on Sundays and aired on Tuesdays, but with the sensitivity of a Grand Final, the record began at 1pm and finished at 5pm yesterday, incorporating all the busy staging required for its diverse acts.

That left just 2.5 hours to turn the show around for its 7:30pm timeslot -a punishing time frame for editing. When it came to cutting the show it was easier just to cut down sections rather than trim within scenes.

For their efforts they landed record ratings, but it didn’t come without some hiccups.

The audience had been asked not to tweet on the results, reminded that there was a lot at stake for the contestants, and the people who had worked on the show. In fact, the speech by Brian McFadden before the show got a round of applause from the crowd.

But one young fan couldn’t resist and had to be ejected after Tweeting on the four finalists.

Last night cast and crew celebrated their season with a party at Melbourne Docklands where they watched the show on the big screen, and were momentarily distracted by a nearby function that had a big screen with MasterChef. After everybody watched Dani being eliminated they went back to celebrating into the night.

  1. This show just looks like so much sh#t from a distance, so who really cares about the turn-around time? Sh#t sticks. But then, I think the Fonz is about to jump to shark on 55…

  2. hmmm dont think it would have been that hard to turn around in the 2.5 hours…. with all the people around…. alot of it would have prepackaged…. just the intros and acts would have needed cutting down..

  3. David i know what your saying but if the other “Got Talent” Franchises around the world can do it Live especially Britain’s Got Talent & America’s Got Talent (plus other “singer” shows like X-Factor UK, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance US), then i don’t see why we cant do it Live….. and to be congratulated for recording, editing and playing it back just seems silly to me. Had they done it Live then a story would be well and truly justified.
Anyway i guess we will just have to agree to disagree

  4. I have never wanted to cut down a tall poppy but that Jack looks so insincere and false and for the first time in my life I want to cut a winner down. Never will I buy a track or recording of this guy. What is wrong Australia that you cant see through this falsehood? Maybe he can sing but entertain? No way! 100% false! no genuine warmth!

  5. David, why can’t TV stations run their shows on time?!?!?!?

AGT was advertised as finishing @ 9pm; the EPG showed 9:19pm – it finally finished just before 9:30pm!!! I know this was their Grand Finale & they probably wanted to milk it for all it’s worth, but this seems to be happening quite a lot, and not just by Channel 7.

Isn’t their a Board or Commission or something that monitors and controls such things?

  6. Why are you congratulating them for recording a show and playing it back a few hours later…….. They should have just made the show Live like most finales of major shows from around the world.

    1. AGT has a lot of staging factors to incorporate for all its diverse acts -it’s not all just singers. Royal Command Performance has similar range of diverse acts but a theatre is better geared to cope with this than most TV studios. Also, it has to work around the ever-changing roll call as acts are elimianted. If it had gone out live you wouldn’t have had the same production values that have helped it become the success it’s been this year.

  7. It was a fantastic “Variety” Show … that is what we need on TV, no more of the repetative cooking or Renovation shows … how boring … we need a good new Variety Show with all these kinds of acts. None of the usual lame comedians and arrogant hosts we usually get … Grant is a brilliant host, and these new talents, combined with international visitors would be so brilliant!!!
Go on, You Can Do It!!!!!
