W’s week with The Borgias

W begins The Borgias, starring Jeremy Irons, commercial-free from Monday to Friday this week.

Don’t forget W’s television event with The Borgias begins tonight -screening commercial-free from Monday to Friday this week.

Starring Jeremy Irons as Rodrigo Borgia/ Pope Alexander VI, the series was created, executive produced and written by Neil Jordan (The Crying Game, Interview With The Vampire), who also directed the first two episodes.

Launched in the US in April it was Showtime network’s highest rating drama premiere in seven years, out-performing The Tudors.

This first season of The Borgias tells the story of Rodrigo (Irons), the cunning, manipulative Spanish patriarch who builds an empire through the corruption of the holy Catholic Church and orchestrates a relentless reign of power and flamboyant cruelty. The series begins in 1492, as Rodrigo bribes, buys and muscles his way into the papacy becoming Pope Alexander VI, propelling him, his two ambitious sons Cesare and Juan, and his scandalously beautiful daughter, Lucrezia, to become the most powerful and influential family of the Italian Renaissance.

A second season of 10 episodes has been commisioned for next year.

It begins with a double episode tonight at 8:30pm.

  1. Of all the channels, W’s watermark is by far the most annoying and intrusive. I was watching Boston Legal the other night and decided to go buy the dvd set as that friggin watermark was over the character’s heads in some instances.
Move the friggin watermark!!! Put it down the bottom right hand corner or get rid of it altogether.
