Spoilers: The 17th Deadly Awards were held at the Sydney Opera House last night, but won’t air until Sunday on SBS, which kinda makes them a Spoiler around here.

But if you read on you can see the Television winners now that you’ve been warned…

The night was hosted by Aaron Pedersen and Casey Donovan.

Executive Producer / Artistic Director Gavin Jones described the awards as the best yet.

“What a night at the Sydney Opera House as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people got behind their Deadly Award winners, through record voting and firmly endorsing their heroes,” he said.

“The Deadlys go from strength to strength each year. We have strong finalists and winners to showcase, some of Indigenous Australia’s best talent to grace the Opera House stage and the overwhelming support of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders and the wider Australian public as ingredients that produce a very successful national awards night.”

TELEVISION WINNERS:

TV Show of the Year
Living Black – SBS

Male Actor of the Year
Aaron Pedersen – City Homicide

Female Actor of the Year
Deborah Mailman – Offspring

Former Australian Idol singer Jessica Mauboy was also named as Female Artist of the Year.

Karla Grant host of Living Black, currently in its 14th season, said: “The team and I are truly honoured to receive this award and to be recognised for the work that we do. This Deadly Award for Living Black demonstrates the program’s importance at promoting a better understanding of the issues facing Indigenous Australia amongst all Australians.”

The Deadly Awards will be broadcast on SBS One on Sunday, October 2nd at 9.30pm.
