Another drama producer on the move?

Industry talk suggests Packed to the Rafters series producer Jo Porter could be headed to FremantleMedia Australia as Head of Drama.

After announcements in Drama execs at Seven and Nine last week, now there is talk of another move.

The Sydney Morning Herald speculates that Packed to the Rafters series producer Jo Porter could be headed to FremantleMedia Australia to become Head of Drama.

Porter previously steered All Saints for Seven.

Last week Seven confirmed Julie McGauran as its Head of Drama for 2012 when John Holmes switches focus to creative production with Bevan Lee. Nine’s Jo Horsburgh finished last week after a speedy announcement by Nine that was resigning.

  1. At least Seven seem to have people in their drama ranks who are potential department heads, although I don’t think much of RSO or Wild Boys, so I don’t really understand why Julie McGauran is the chosen one. Who in their right mind would accept the poison chalice at Nine? Discuss!

  2. Good points @Gonzo & @Ronnie ,,, I’m fairly sure Jo was launch producer for all Seven’s recent hits. She’s a class act, very creative and a nice person who has served her apprenticeship. Seven should have shown her more loyalty – but then that’s typical of the place. However …
… I suspect there is more to all these moves such as the Jo Horsebrough one at Nine. There was a line in the Nine press release that said an announcement of a successor would be made in a few “weeks”.
That time frame suggests to me that the successor is possibly already in the frame for that gig, thus triggering other changes elsewhere in the drama community.

  3. Well Seven cannot overlook the person who’s been producing their most successful drama series ever and expect her to stay. Agreed – Fremantle drama is in a lot of trouble and needs experience in this genre on their team.
