Big Brother in July?

The guessing game on Big Brother's date and location continues.

Could TV in 2012 end up being a battle between MasterChef vs Big Brother? Maybe.

Brisbane Times is tipping the return of BB to kick off in July 2012 -but has it taken into account that the Olympic Games will be staged from 27th July to 12th August?

History has shown us that networks, and rival networks, always plan their years around events of this scale. Nine could opt to launch BB following the Games, it will be a golden chance to reboot their schedule. Of couse the later it starts the less clad those housemate bodies will be….

There has been much speculation that BB will be stripped at 7pm, following the success of The Block, rather than being a property for GO! There has even been one suggestion Nine could strip The Voice. Where will it end?

There is still no confirmation on the host or location of the new-look BB. But Queensland Premier (and former Reality TV participant) Anna Bligh has been making noises about wanting the show to return to the Gold Coast.

Dreamworld spokeswoman Melinda Lloyd said the new cast and crew would be “more than welcome” to return to its traditional home.

“The shell of the old house is still there,” she said. “It would be very cost-effective for them to move back in, and we’d certainly welcome their return.”

Meanwhile, the show’s logo on its Facebook page is a bit of a mix of the 2001-2004 shape and 2005-2007 style.

The show returns next year as Big Brother: Secrets.

  1. @jonno – ratings for celebrity BB were very high and the series itself was well made. The current season is dismal because it was a really poor selection of housemates. CBB averaged 2.6 million to memory only weeks ago, current BB rates 1million.

So its not that its had its day – an audience still exists. You just can’t tick them off a la Jules Lund, Shelley Craft, <30yr old housemates.

  2. Just read on the uk website “The Sun” that UK Big Brothers rating is down to 900,000,the lowest in its 11 year history. It started the season with 3 million and has since sunk. This show has had its heyday.

  3. Hopefully the headlines will read something like,
“Former Queensland Premier (and former Reality TV participant) Anna Bligh has been making noises about wanting the show to return to the Gold Coast and has been shortlisted to compare”.
Will then have more then enough reasons not to watch it.

  4. I think Jules Lund will probably take over Mike Goldmans role though it would be cool if they brought back Mike, I hope they have uncut and uplate I used to love uplate and uncut was awesome to until the media made everyone hate it.

  5. Sounds terrific! In regards to the host, that is something that isn’t important till eveything else is sorted. But the timeslot sounds great as well as it potentially returning to Dream World. Just making me more excited!

  6. Premiere the Voice Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday 7.30 maybe from March. Maybe put the Block on from March as well at its tradtional 7pm stripped nightly. Then premiere Big Brother after the Olympics.

  7. @Steve – completely agree. I think put it in melbourne during winter, where it rains.

Rain + Bored Housemates = conflict
Sun + Bored Housemates = 12 hour tanning salons.

Oh and please Natalie Garonzi as host! You already own her nine!

  8. Along with The Voice, I have a feeling that Nine don’t really care if they do that well with Big Brother.

I think their main strategy lately has been to just grab anything for themselves to stop any other Network potentially doing well with it.

  9. I’m in Qld, but hope they actually don’t do it at Dreamworld, but in Sydney or Melbourne, to both change and freshen things up. Anna Bligh will be out of a job in 6-7 months anyway.
