Bumped: Good News World

More bad news for Good News World with TEN bumping the show back to a 10:30pm start next week.

More bad news for Good News World with TEN bumping the show back to a 10:30pm start next week.

At 9:30pm TEN has scheduled a repeat of Law and Order: SVU (a new season returns in the US tomorrow).

The revamp of Good News Week from a panel show to a sketch show was an attempt to keep the show on air this year but while it’s had a few laughs (and it’s always fun to have a Paul McDermott song), watching someone like Mikey Robins shift from spontaneous gags to scripted material has been ultimately disappointing.

This week it rated just 330,000 viewers.

What this means for 2012 is unclear given its mention at the recent Programming Launch by TEN was on its present season.

Should the show return in 2012 with its traditional panel mix?

  1. So does that mean Ten Late News will be on at 11.30?

At this point .. Sandra is probably glad to do away with Late News and finally have a stable time for work!

  2. I wish they had kept the show as an 8:30pm offering. It would have given the rubbish currently showing on SBS a good run for the money at the same hour.

I only came across GNW by default one night some years back after SBS were showing the same old South Park repeats from the early years so fed up after 10 minutes switched over to Ten and no regrets since

  3. Ten must have looked at Nine and said “Hey, look what they did to Top Gear. I wonder if we can do that to any of our golden geese?”

In little more than 5 years 10 has gone from my most-watched to my least watched main channel. I’m over it. Seriously.

  4. Here’s a thought for Ten, instead of trying to revamp it, give the show back to the ABC.

GNW was at its funniest when you didn’t have Standards & Editorial looking over its shoulder saying… You can’t say that, our sponsors won’t like that. How about a guest spot for Jensen Eckles.

The reason GNW works on the ABC is thes ame reason Glass House worked, they were free to pretty much go after anyone they wanted without worrying about upsetting anyone. Well, ABC editorial which goes tut tut and privately laughs their asses off.

  5. Doubt if we’ll see it go back to the old format.

I was wondering why they changed the format so much – then I realised …

… Scripted lines; sketch comedy; gag sets; no live audience shots – they’re trying to build up drama points folks!

Currently not many of those points adding up around the Ten schedule with Neighbours on 11 and only Rush left in long-form to satisfy the regulators are there?

And GNW would be a fraction of the cost to Ten than Rush.

  6. Now that Spicks & Specks is going, why don’t they head back to Good News Weekend/Weeknight-Lite? The music variety slash news show they had, with Flacco & Sandman, and an in-house band, where Paul would sing with the guests (Mark Trevorrow, Marcia Hines etc)? That was very popular.

  7. Get rid of Good News Week and i do not knw wat the hell is good news world at first i thought u were talking about good news week. lol. Whats the point of Good news world?

  8. I think Good News Week should return to its old format, but keep some of the sketches in place as well. I love the Traditional Household sketches by Randy and Sammy J, they are funny as. The Masterchef and ANTMM sketches are getting old already though.

I like the new format but I definitely miss the spontaneous gags, unscripted material and the games element of the show.

  9. It was pulling 800,000 viewers at 8:30, then they bumped it to 9:30pm and it dropped to about 500,000. Now they’ve changed it to World and it’s down to 330,000.

Hint for TEN – Stop changing things!!
