George Donikian has resigned from Network TEN after more than 20 years.
Donikian had been presenting News in Melbourne after 18 years of presenting the Adelaide bulletin, much of which was filmed in Melbourne.
At the beginning of this year he was presenting the 5pm Melbourne bulletin with Helen Kapalos, but after Mal Walden returned to the role following the end of the 6:30 local bulletin, Donikian was given weekends and Fridays in Melbourne.
But now the weekend bulletin is to be replaced with a Sydney-produced bulletin.
“As one door closes, another door opens and I am looking forward to the next chapter in my career,” he told AdelaideNow
Donikian, who was SBS’s first news anchor for over 8 years, will now become a “free agent”.

According to the Age he was spotted being shown around the 3AW studios last week.
Week 35 last year vs week 35 this year….
Ten News Adelaide is down over 50% viewers
Np 🙂
See ya George. We loved having you around.
David, has TEN’s Adelaide news now rating lower than when it came out of melbourne
Grantly: I archive ratings to be self serve here on the site. Whenever people ask me long term questions I usually feel like saying ‘One of us can drill back through all of the data here, so I nominate you!” In the nicest possible way of course! 😉
SBS? there’s no more room for him. Goncalves and Mangos already fill the ‘ethnic’ male presenter category
Donikian is a great newsreader & CEO Lachlan Murdoch wants to have news out of Sydney. Murdoch needs to be shown the front door as he has stuffed TEN
Wow, he was a staple of Adelaide news. Shame to see him go, if 10 didn’t stuff around with their news so much this year I bet he would have stayed on.
He should return to SBS, he was excellent as their news presenter
So Mal will be doing Friday’s again?
