Global hunt for Breakfast producer

TEN is on a global hunt for an Executive Producer for Breakfast, its 2012 competitor to the current batch of morning television shows.

TEN is on a global hunt for an Executive Producer for Breakfast, its 2012 competitor to the current batch of morning television shows.

Programming Chief David Mott told The Australian, “There are certainly some candidates we are looking at in Australia but we thought, well, we’ve got time, so let’s cast the net a bit wider.

“We’ve looked at a number of shows overseas, in the UK and Europe and the US, and put the feelers out there to find exactly the right person for the show that we want to create. We’re looking for someone with understanding (of) news and social commentary. And someone that knows the daily grind of producing a show every day essentially for 52 weeks of the year.

“What we don’t want to create is a show that is just more of the same. (Sunrise and Today) are two very good breakfast shows, there’s a lot of history there, and therefore we see an opportunity to create a brand that lives on its own,” he said.

Apologies to ABC News Breakfast, no doubt (the show that had the Breakfast name first anyway).

Aside from Andrew Rochford, so far no co-hosts have been announced for the new show, to be loosely based on a model of The 7PM Project.

  1. *Raises his hand.* Ten get that Andrew Rochford is an actually… oh what’s the word… Doctor with real patients and real job he has to do right?

@Craig: Let’s start with the Footy coverage then move to all the prime time sports programming on ONE then all the Footy Programming which was Trumpeted at the start of the year when no doubt Ten were planning to go hard for the rights from next year onwards.

A lot of things have been cut since Laclan Murdoch took over, all because of his personal taste. He’s the Australian Micheal Grade (Only one person is going to understand that reference.)

  2. Can’t see it happening – But would love to see Jana Wendt as Co-host. Really miss Jana on Australian TV. How said there is no place on Australian TV for such a intellectual talent.

  3. @burt

I think in television journalism once someone has an evening spot they rarely put their hand up to change their schedule to go to mornings. Someone from early/morning News would be a better fit.

Although why hasn’t Tracey Curro been given the job yet? She’d be great

  4. Hmm…. Do you know what else has a lot of history & a brand that lives on it’s own?
Good Morning Australia! ‘Breakfast’ is a stupid, lowest common denominator name.
