Home and Away pips Neighbours in UK soap awards

Home and Away beat Neighbours and UK drama Doctors for the Best Daytime Soap at the UK's Inside Soap awards.

Home and Away beat Neighbours and UK drama Doctors for the Best Daytime Soap at the UK’s Inside Soap awards.

But Neighbours‘ Ryan Moloney (Jarrod ‘Toadie’ Rebecchi) defeated castmate Jackie Woodburne, Home and Away actress Esther Anderson and UK actor Matthew Chambers from Doctors in the ‘Best Daytime Star’ category.

Greg Barnett from Channel 5, which screens both Aussie soaps, told Digital Spy: “We’re absolutely delighted Home and Away, in its 24th year, has received this accolade from UK viewers.

“The series has had incredible drama content this year from the ongoing misbehavings of the River Boys to Marilyn’s baby drama. The characters and stories seem to have really resonated with viewers.”

Of Moloney’s win, he added: “Neighbours, in its 26th year, has always had a special place in the hearts of UK viewers and Ryan has been a favourite since he first stepped on to Ramsay Street 15 years ago.

“In the last year, he’s been at the centre of dramatic and humourous storylines which he’s played out terrifically. It’s a great testament to him that he’s still a firm favourite with UK viewers.”

The Brits voted EastEnders as Best Soap over Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

  1. I love Home and Away, I am still struggling to enjoy Neighbours … sorry, but it has too many uninteresting characters and stories.
Home and Away is just brilliant at the moment! (Though they really need to stop having all the female teens sleeping around and show a bit of morality and restraint, a very bad example to create!)

  2. @Jerome H&A will be in its 25th year next year and won’t celebrate its 25th birthday on air until January 2013 however due to filming in 1987 it will be 25 years since they first got together to do the show.

  3. So it’s H&As 25th birthday next year. Hopefully they do something. A primetime special/ reunion would be good in that week after the Australian open before ratings start.
